I had/have a 4 GB SD memory card that seamed to get corrupt in my camera . I cleaned it and re-formatted it , lost a few images , nothing too good I think - but would hate to lose further images . The card is 4 months old, bought abroad , am i best of scrapping it and just getting new memory , or should the re-format work ? I was abroad not sure if the xray scanner may have done something - had a similar problem with a usb memory card that i had to discard .
    Any idea ?

    cheers.

scrap it Barry, I had 2 2gb cf cards that went in the bin because they were a bit dodgy. Not worth the hassle

There could be any number of reasons why it failed. X-ray should not do it any damage.

You may be able to use it with no problems, but with memory being so cheap, no harm replacing it.

Do a google for something like "4GB compact flash fakes" and see what comes up ;)

And of course the do go wrong, test by reformating and copying a nice big file to it on your computer say a ripped DVD (can be sized to fit on 4GB) and then copy it back again to your computer and see if it still plays. Takes ages butonly way to test for sure.

Sorry you've had trouble with it Barry but the good news is that they have gone sooooooo cheap these days that it is nearly an option to purchase them like you would have done a roll of film in by gone days. (that's kinda funny actually)

Over on 7dayshop they have some interesting ones

When buying, one thing to bear in mind is the speed rating. Sometimes it won't cost much more to get one with a higher rating.

    Class 2: 2 MB/s
    Class 4: 4 MB/s
    Class 6: 6 MB/s

Even if your camera isn't capable of using the full transfer speed of the card, it is quite likely that your card reader will so you would benefit from quicker transfer times.

I've never heard of any issues with a card being 'too fast' for a camera but i'm open to correction if anyone else has come across this.

If it ever happens again ,there are programs available that will salvage about 50% of data.

I've used them before on SD cards and around half the images were fine.Cards were completely dead otherwise.

7dayshop, mymemory and such stores (online) sell genuine goods at a very good price. Many are much much cheaper than any store in Ireland.

I'd always use multiple cards and rotate them.
