Work Experience

I am keen to obtain work experience in the financial services or banking sector (Preferably Funds) but as I have no experience (like most graduates I just have few years working in Dunnes etc as my college didnt do work experience as part of course). At this stage id consider Office role just to have office based work experience but every job I have seen advertised requires a few years experience and no where seems to be taking on entry level staff at all (In any sector).

Is there anything I can do or does anyone out there know of anywhere I can obtain work experience even on a voluntary/non paying basis? Any help very much appreciated.

Why not try some charities to see if they need any help?

Get out the phone book and ring around asking for any entry level job positions, you might get lucky as firms may not be advertising. I got lucky doing the same a couple of months back.

The thing about sending emails is that it shows very little initiative, i know picking up the phone isnt much more of a step, but at least that way you get talking to people and you might end up with at least a contact to forward a CV to. Sending emails into some HR department's mail box is not going to make you stand out. You'd be amazed at the amount of people who refuse any kind of contact outside of emails. Give it a lash, what's the worst that could happen? "sorry we have nothing available at the moment", that's about it really.
