Auctioneers are the same the world over.

There are four main ones in Ballinrobe for you to try (plus a few small ones).

    http://www.walkinauctioneers.com/

    http://www.burkeauctioneers.com/

    http://www.feerickproperty.com/

    http://www.michaelburkeauctioneers.com/

If you are looking to buy then there is great value to be had here, but watch out for the quarrys (that don't come up on a council search), waste permits, water issues, through traffic, where the bypass is to be build!!!!?!?!?

Whatever about auctioneers, don’t engage a solicitor in this town, even if your bank advises it. I have heard too many bad stories, they are all incompetent.

FYP. But in all fairness is that not making assumptions. I'd be very cautious before making a generalisation like that and/or listening to the reviews on certain sites.

Note for the OP, www.mayo-ireland.ie generally has good info on mayo towns and has contacts for auctioneers and things like that.

Also, before even approaching an Auctioneer - be it Mayo or elsewhere, I would always check out a website like myhome.ie or daft.ie - not only does it give you an upfront range of peoperties, it also gives you guideline prices and contact details for local auctioneers.

That being said, My dad has sold two houses through the newspaper privately, and has saved thousands of euro on auctioneers fees, which runs from between 2% and 4.5% at the moment around Mayo.

Good luck on your house searching. :)

Hughes comments re Ballinrobe solicitors are defamatory. He/she refers to stories. From personal knowledge I believe all the solicitors in Ballinrobe are most competent.

Hughes should withdraw his/her defamatory remarks

Heyho, easy up on the defamatory claims - each to their own opinion, but if you feel that such a post breaks the rules - report it. Don't throw around legal terms please. I agree that Hughs did throw an unwarranted opinion out there without backing it up though.

I would always start an assertion with

    "It is my belief that................."

But i would hesitate to make comments on stories from hearsay as that is just gossip.

Peter is a nice friendly helpful reliable person, who also is heavily involved in community efforts and the GAA. As well as having a young family of his own.
