€250? It's not all that bad.
It'd want to be great, though.

For that money you would get an older UAD card with a software bundle, and have a cool 1176 emulation as well as some other great sounding plugins.

They are probably even to be had cheaper than this if you look around.

Some of these plugin companies have got to take their prices down.

Just because they are modelling something hardware that costs two grand does not mean they can charge hundreds for it.

Compare with the world of Computer Games: Even the most simple of First Person Shooter games is of an order of magnitude more complicated to program than a compressor plugin: A whole 3d rendered universe of millions of polygons interacting together, Artificially Intelligent creatures, voice actors , movie cut scenes, hours and hours of proffessionally recorded and scored soundtrack and sound effects and it sells for 39.99 when it comes out, 19.99 6 months later and 14.99 or 9.99 a few years after.

Its crazy. Specially when there's free software out there, programmed by hobbyists that will do most of what you want (Digitalfishphones is a presonal favourite)

yeah, but not many people are going to be buying a software compressor compared to a game .

plus it's difficult playing 10 instances of Call of Duty.

you're right there, and that does explain some of it.

But personally, I just wouldnt ever spend more than 50 quid on a plugin. I dont mind the cost of a DAW program, but a plugin, no way.

as ive said in the other post - im willing to spend the money on anything I know will enhance my recordings - within reason.

but im very careful what i choose .

With tongue somewhat in cheek, that will mean for the most part that you won't be owning any quality plugins.

Not to say that you can't do great work with what you use, but the tools I use all the time cost more than that, are and well worth it to me.

If you have PT, the BF76 is excellent, IMO.

I dunno: Voxengo Pristine Space for Reverb, with a whole host of IRs of real Spaces and all the Lexicon and TC Impulses - which are free on Noisevault.

TL Audio EQ 1 for most of my EQ (Look at Gearslutz and KVR, digital eq plugins have been revealed to be all the same, regardless of cost)

Various plugin freeware compressors and a Powercore I bought on here for 100 quid - comes with a 1176 emu and Classicverb and Megaverb.

I never use chorus or phasing or flanging on anything, and hate synths.

    Does the job nicely.
