Im working an office of about 30 people and my girlfriend wants me to print her out some stuff for home. I was wondering if the boss or the tec boys would know what i was printing or is there a way for them to look at my printing history cause i dont want to get in trouble for using the officve printer for non work related jobs. I like her but she aint worth losing my job.

depends on the printer, some will keep a log of the file names of files printed, and how many pages printed, which user computer was printing. If toner is being used faster than it should be you might have somebody look into whats being printed. how much stuff does she want you to print

In a office of thirty people, doubtful. Depends on the hardware and setup though, something we wouldn't be able to tell you offhand.

You could try asking your boss can you print the pictures?

It'll look pretty bad for you if you're caught doing it without asking.
Unless your boss is de Führer himself, hes hardly going to say no to printouts for children at christmas. :)

Just print it all out, unless they are using a print system like safecom you have nothing to worry about. You can manually delete the logs from the printer as most It places are too thick to lock these down. Or.. you could just ask and not run the risk of getting in ****.

that many colour pictures will use a lot more toner than standard office documents.

. A lot of the logging system records the time printed, user who printed, % toners used and the file name. You could consider naming the pictures with names associated with work! That way it may look more legit.

Nice idea but if they know how many kb a printed doc was (I'm no expert but I imagine they can find out) they will know it's not work related and will look pretty fishy.

OP if it was 30/40 B&W pages I'm sure they wouldn't mind but that many in colour is a little expensive, ask and offer to buy him a pint!

Just ask, your boss will more than likely be grand with it.

black and white can vary from about 1c to a few c per page ( 5c if you believe the anti-HP propaganda , but most people don't get the maintanance kit until it's needed)

colour printing for a medium sized office printer could be between 10c an A4 sheet to €1 a sheet on some film transfer printers
    double that for double sided
    and double for A3
( a double sided A3 is the same as 4 single sided A4's , and unless it's a dedicated colour printer then you probably use a pass per colour so a double sided A3 might use up to 16 times the clicks on the photoconductor as a single sided A4 !! )

Best to ask as it should be ok
If refused then offer to pay , if it's under contract then they are paying a fixed charge

if you are going to do it on the sly make sure the girlfriend knows it's a one off , there is a recession on and you don't want to give anyone excuses to move you further down the list
