I've been trying to find this on google for a while but with no luck.

What's the Tax Rate for beer, wine and spirits?

    Well, I foind this:
    http://www.finfacts.com/irishfinancenews/article_10007222.shtml
but it's bit old and i'd like to know in % and not cent per bottle

And is VAT charged on top of the Excise duty?

    Thanks.

If you go to revenue.ie and do a search, you'll get more definitive results.

Revenue.ie has me going around in circles.

They talk about an increase of 50 cent per bottle of wine. But I don't know what the excise rate was before.

I put the term 'beer, wine and spirits' into the search box and clicked on the first result - Word doc Notice 1886, scroll down to the Appendix section and you'll see what level of tax is charged on alcohol products - it does not specify VAT though

The VAT section says all alcohol is at 21.5%http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vat/rates/decision-detail-00739.html

ok, thanks for the link. I guess your research skills are better than mine

So, if my calculations are right (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pcIvSvYGg0WdT0fMXel9GKg&hl=en), that would mean:

A €9.5 bottle of wine is charged 77% tax.

A €4.5 pint of beer is charged 41% tax.

CAn't figure out the spirits according to that doc:

    Product
    Unit of Quantity
    Rate of Alcohol Products Tax
    Brandy
    Litre of Alcohol
    €39.25

It isn't rated as a percentage of the total. It's a set rate by volume sold.
