How do people on here manage with being on different forums and using different passwords? Do you write down your passwords or use the same ones?

i use mozilla firefox, which remembers your username and passwords for you if you wish , just make sure to have a password set to log onto your pc so nobody can clean you out !!!

or you could also use a password manager

When you have to start memorising 20+ digit passwords, things like forums start becoming a hell of a lot more easy to remember.

Having a password manager is just as flawed as having a single password for everything.

Not at all. If someone gets access to your physical PC, sure, you're screwed.
But if someone were to run an exploit against a site that doesn't encrypt your password in their database (I'm sure boards.ie does, but many many many do not), then the guy will have your password to everything, no physical access required.

I have select individual passwords for important sites such as my main email, bank or anything important, I also change these from time to time. For forums and less personal sites I use similar passwords with minor variants to each, the ones you need to watch are the networking sites such as myspace, facebook or bebo. If you use the same password for these and your online banking or main email account you are in serious jeopardy! I personally would'nt use password managers but each to their own. ALWAYS change automated generated passwords, trust neither man nor machine!

Last Pass is amazing and multi platform

I use a different password for everything and i carry a last pass pocket (usb key utility) on my usb key with me at all times. My passwords are encrypted on a server.

Not very wise to use the same password for everything

Norton I.S. has an identity safe. If I didnt use that I'd just let Firefox do it.

My Fingerprint reading software does it too, but swiping your finger all the time gets old fast.

Just put a copy of your fingerprint on the underside of your mouse , no one will ever think of looking there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mnemonic Mnemonics rely on associations between easy-to-remember constructs which can be related back to the data that is to be remembered. This is based on the principle that the human mind much more easily remembers spatial, personal, surprising, sexual or humorous or otherwise meaningful information than arbitrary sequences.
