My Sky box + recently started giving me trouble - it can pick up the stations no problem but it will not record and I cannot access the stuff I had saved on the HD. Additionally the on/off switch has also gone dodgy.

I finally got around to calling them today and they told me that a new box will cost 149 plus 50 for an engineer call out plus and this really got me an extra charge of 37.50 (I think) because I said there was no installed phone line. (I actually have a phone line but I dont want it connected because when they installed the box first time around they made an awful bags of installing the extension to the box)

Surely this is major major rip off stuff? Apologies if this hasa been posted before.

Get one from an Ebay seller for 40-60 euros.
Put the leads into the appropriate inputs and save 140 euros or so.
