How do i get stains out of mexican pine table?

Brought a mexican pine table couple of months ago, the problem is when the kids have finished eatting from there, there's food left on it and when i go to give it a clean there's the water stain left over:mad: The kids are using place mats but kids are kids;) It now has sooooo many stains it's driving me mental:eek: Please…

Apparently buffing the wood with a mild abrasive is good for this - I've seen whitening toothpaste suggested, or ash mixed with cooking oil.
