I wouldn't go near this... From a video perspecive, it doesn't have mkv or mp4 support. Also, it has only component out for HD resolutions - no HDMI. Well, the maximum resolution they mention is 576 (upscaled to 720p), which is hardly HD.

For music or photos I guess it would be fine, but most poeple I'm sure are thinking about using it for video.

There are plenty of other media streamers available, such as NMT (Network Media Tank) based products, like Popcorn Hour. They are far superior. Or even better, get yourself a PS3 which can act as a games console and a media system / streamer.

Has someone got a link to instructions on how to use a PS3 as a media streamer. I have one of the argosy disks I got ibood, does what it says on the tin but I find the resolution is random so if I play an mpeg or avi on the laptop I get full screen but copy to the argosy and play through tv its like 4:3 mode. Yet some movie files will play full screen.
I tried to see if any difference between files, no joy, so must be something in the files themselves.

I'm sure you can find everything you need from a google search, but here's a quick summary:

To stream content from a PC:
    1. install a program called TVersity on your PC
    2. Open TVersity on your PC and In the Library section, define the folders that contain the video / audio / photo content. This is where the PS3 will look
    3. Open the PS and go to Video > Search for media servers
    4. It should find it as long as you have the Mediaserver.exe allowed as an exception on your Windows Firewall
    5. Obviously the PC will have to be on and running TVersity for this to work

Anyway, this works very well, and I use it all the time myself.

To stream from External Hard Drive
    1. Create a folder structure on the hard drive as follows: PS3 > VIDEO
    2. Add your video content to the folder. The PS3 should see the external drive automatically

Also, if you are getting mkv files the PS3 cannot play them directly. To get around this, download a program called mkv2vob, and convert the mkv file to a m2ts file, which the PS3 will play. Don't worry, the conversion process takes only a few seconds, and the quality of the video / audio is unaffected.

You can also use this TVersity software on xbox 360, Set it up yesterday and it's great! :)
It downloads codecs on-the-fly to the xbox HD if they are not supported by default (such as .avi files).

This media player is not much above the price of the storage (about €40 more than an external drive) so please compare like with like.

That's great. Was getting peed off having to copy files I wanted to play from my external HD to the My Video folder to play them through the 360.

Good value, although that's because there's no HDMI I assume. Remote is the same as my iomega which I got last year for €160 from peats.

I use TVersity myself, but if you don't want to install it, you can just add the external hard drive as one of your shared folders in Windows Media Player and then the 360 will pick it up as well.

No HDMI or OGG support though which you get on the Iomega.
