confused about tax and stuff

    hiya guys,

    im in 1st year uni and ive been working for a promotions company recently and ive been paid via cheques, which i lodge directly into my account, the company takes my pps numer and address and all, but i dont seem to be getting taxed or whatever, can anyone tell me what happens or if i have to claim it or something, or do i not get taxed because its part time work and im a student? cheers thanks

    yo, this is actually quite normal, happened to me before. Generally speaking as a single person you can earn the eqiuvelant of about 400 euro tax free every week for the year, so if u dont earn that one week it would carry forward or whatever. Some companys dont give out payslips but would have them their if you ask for them, i dont think you pay PRSI until you earn about 200 hundred a week either, so its quite possible they are doin everything legit and you just dont owe nothing, having said that if your worried ask them or give the tax office a ring ya know

    cheers, well im living with my folks, and im not making anywhere near 200 a week, i get paid once a month, and thats depending if theres work, so id say its about 50-75 a week
