spent 6 days in Vegas in September. I love it there, really do.
Stayed in Mandalay bay, right next to Luxor. Went to see Dvid Copperfield too :D

    Can't recommend Vegas enough!

Only annoying theing is the streets are quite dirty.

Spent 3 days in Vegas during the summer, couldn't wait to get out of the city, it really wasn't for me:mad: however i stayed in the Bellagio and if i could i would have brought the hotel with me, its a fantastic place to stay and the same price as any 3 star hotel here.

I was in Las Vegas during the summer and while it is fabulous, a few days is enough. We stayed 5 nights and I wouldn't recommend much more than that (unless you plan to go and spend a day or 2 in the Grand Canyon).

We stayed in the Mirage and I would definitly recommend it. It is in a great location, has a lovely pool and has beautiful newly refurbished rooms. Wherever you decide to stay, make sure you check out www.fatwallet.com and www.smartervegas.com they are sites that use promo codes to get money off rooms. We got our Mirage room for $72 during the week (you could normally expect to pay $129+)

Just be aware that the price of hotel rooms can triple at weekends so try and go during the week if you can.

I can't comment on Cirque or any of the shows as we didn't go to any, but I've heard they were amazing.

stayed in New York New York last year, couldn't say enough good things about the place, top notch.

to add to what another poster said about staying during the week,we arrived on a sunday evening and the hotel was emptying rapidly. got a free upgrade to much bigger rooms than we'd reserved. we checked out on the friday and the place was hopping,it's a weekend party town for the yanks, weekend rates are much higher than midweek.

I went to Vegas in Jan and June last year. I stayed at the MGM (very nice, very big), Planet Hollywood (very nice, definitely 4 star+), Stratosphere (old and a bit crap) and the Luxor (nice, small rooms, bit tackey)

Planet Hollywood was the best and I would definitely recommend it.

I am going in 3 weeks and am staying at the MGM again. I was able to get a room for USD59.99 a night for weeknights, which is very good for a 4 star hotel anywhere

AA.com(American Airlines) will get you to Vegas in Jan for Euro274.90 which is a very good deal.

I was there this morning, actually. It's melting nicely. I-15 through Baker got shut down entirely (Back open now)

Vegas is one of those places that every time I visit, I am just awed by the sheer excess and tonnage of cash that goes into the place. Bellagio was the first billion-dollar hotel, now that sort of thing is typical. You can spend all day just gaping at the inside spaciousness of Paris or The Venetian. Spend hours walking the Forum (Caesar's Palace) or Miracle Mile (Planet Hollywood, still bears a striking resemblance to The Passage from The Aladdin days). (A good set of walking shoes is a must. If you walk the 'main strip' from Mandalay Bay through to the Wynn and back again on the other side (i.e. not going as far as Circus Circus or Stratosphere), you'll have clocked up a few miles without any of the meandering -inside- the casinos. The distances are deceptive, both on the map and by eyesight.

Spend a couple of days on the strip (and go shoot machineguns at The Gun Store) but don't be afraid to go off-strip either, particularly for meals. You can still get the $8 prime rib in Vegas casinos, you just won't get them at Luxor. (I saw a 6oz steak in Manadaly Bay for $195.00. For that price, it had better have come from a cow which was slaughtered by Tibetan monks, flown within 26 hours to Vegas, and gets served on the belly of a virgin).

Most any of the shows are worth the money. Cirque runs for some stupid amount like $100 a ticket, and they sell out every night. (They have at least two Cirques going right now). I've not yet met anyone who's regretted spending the cash. I've seen a few of the shows, including Blue Man and Steve Wyrick, but even the 'cheap' stand-up comedy routines at places like Palace Station (Off the strip, remember!) can entertainingly pass the evening.

ncmc isn't off the mark, though. If you're planning on spending more than four or five days there, I hope you're also counting Grand Canyon time or some other such 'out-of-town' excitement.

    NTM

Wow snow in Vegas, that I Would love to see, I was there in April for ten days and the place is massive. I walked from the Mandalay Bay to Circus Circus and back down again (plus alot of investigating in between) I then went onto google earth and took the measuring tool to the map to discover I have walked almost 15miles! in 34 degree heat, I had blisters in my feet ouch! On the second and subsequent days I took the monorail which runs behind the casinos and costs $4 /one way.

There is loads to see and something for everybody, the car Mueseum in the Imperial is well worth a look if you are into cars!, plus pick up the flyers in the Monorail and you get loads of freebies such as the car Mueseum.

I stayed in the Monte Carlo and the place was perfect, I couldn't complain and with flights from Shannon to Las Vegas via JFK and 10 nights in the Monte Carlo I paid around €1,200 with Delta Airlines booked on ebookers.ie.

I was there when €1 equaled $1.59 so I was throwing dollars around like monopoly money. But if you are on a budget you can still good deals, everything on the strip is more expensive I'd say 30-40% more than off strip. I visted Walmart and stuff can be had for pennies and the Fashion Show mall and the The Boulevard Mall are very good and the premium outlets all give good bargain with the Boulevard Mall being my favourite and the cheapest as it is a bit away from the strip over by UNLV (Universtiy of Las Vegas).

I'd recommend to anyone and it would make a great choice for a Stag Party if the budget would stretch as it is a real adult playground with gambling, strippers etc. I would not take Children there though as the cards on the streets for hookers* were very in your face.

    Otherwise it is great

*illegal in Clark County <(not in other counties though) and highly dangerous you will be robbed and drugged easily, a friend of mine in Vegas told me.

One way? I take it thats not the return price? If it is could you give an example date.

That price was showing up on the AA site the other day for return flights from Dublin. The fare type was "Dream Deal" and seems to be gone now. It was a very restricted fare.

PS: I know it sounds like I was only imagining the fare, but it was definitely there, I checked it several times

+1 for staying in the Monte Carlo. Lovely rooms, great staff and it's on the strip. I am dying to go back some day..
Go and see the Veneitan and the Bellagio, fabulous buildings. You can ride the deuce bus up and down the strip all day for 5US dollars.
Don't stay longer than a few days as the novelty will eventually wear off.

Book your flights through the UK. Flights from there are much cheaper.

You should also be able to get a very good hotel room in Vegas on the strip for about €30 midweek and €70 weekend (and thats per room, not per person).

    That city is just amazing.
