I don't want to hear about benefits/disadvantages  I need to know on behalf of someone who is on the dole and forking out nearly €100 a week of her dole money on this.... she has applied for a medical card but it has not come through yet.

Can a doctor prescribe it and will it be covered by the drugs payment scheme(has the card) until medical card comes through?

I'm not sure your attitude in your first sentence is going to have people rushing to help you with your query.

No. Generally quack medicines are not covered by health payment schemes and Lipotrim is no exception. If she wants it, she will continue to have to pay.

Lipotrim, is that the slimming aid you are talking about?

    If it is;

    1. It's not a licensed medicinal product, a prescription is not needed and it is not covered by the government drug schemes.

    2. Don't touch it with a barge pole.

    3. There is no substitute for an appropriate calorie restricted diet combined with regular exercise at a suitable intensity.

Actually I have no attitude about it at all;) just need to know whether its available to be prescribed by a doctor or not.

spot on there onetrueone, well dodgy stuff. Rapid weight loss followed by rapid weight gain and i've seen severe electrolyte distubances in people using it.
Go for a walk instead :)

I have refused to stock it in the Pharmacy that I work at.
IMO it's unethical to recommend it.
I refuse out of principle to recommend any detox patches, celebrity diet crap etc - all which happen to have NO evidence base.

Is Lipotrim one of those semi-starvation milkshake diets?
Lot of coverage of those in the news recently...they have been shown to cause organ (including brain) damage. Oh, and you'll most likely put all the weight back on as soon as you go back on normal food.

i was on the lipotrim when i was on the scratcher a few months back, medical card doesnt cover it..
its not worth ur while any way, i was on it for 6 weeks and not a pick of food did i touch lost 2 stone, within a month gained 3 stone back..
but back to ur post like some ppl with a bit of beef on them im sure will spend up to a hundred euro a week on junk food etc a week any way, i know i used to so theres no harm in blowing the 100 euro on something that may help ur mate loose the weight

    Hi Everyone,

This is my first time using Boards. I want to start a diet and it's either going to be Lipotrim or Celebrity Slim. One of my friends used Lipotrim and he lost 3 stone and he looked very very drained after it. It's a month since he came off it, he said it has changed his life and the best thing he ever did. I am 5'7", late 30's and 19.5 stone. I need to loose weight, I just don't know which of the two diets are best to go with. I have read a huge number of posts from people who said how bad the diets are and to be honest, I tried the gym and it worked for a while, but you need tremendous will power to stick with it. I just want to try these for four or five months. I know this is an old request, but I would really appreciate some advice.

    Thanks

Have you considered getting some home fitness equipment? I got an exercise bike not so long ago and love using it while watching tv or reading a book. The gym just wasn't for me so this is a fine (cardio) substitute that I compliment with a calorie restricted healthy diet. The best things about it are that it works and it's enjoyable!

Yep, got the machine before, but did not have the motivation to use the bike. I think I want to just try one of these diets for a while and see how I get on. The Celebrity Slim (terrible name) diet looks good as at least you will not be anti-social if you have to go our for a meal.

Surely if this friend of the OP is on the dole, they have plenty of time to lose weight by doing exercise - weights/running/walking/swimming/cycling.

Join a gym and get a personal trainer - it will be cheaper than 100euro a week, and will actually work!

I'd recommend getting a cross trainer (all over body workout with little strain on the joints) - but try before you buy!

Also a polar Heart rate monitor is nearly essential as with this you will always know when you are training at the correct intensity i.e. 70-80% of maximum heart rate, for 20-30 mins, minimum four times per week.

Getting the equipment I have mentioned was the best thing I did last year.
I work long hours (45 -50 hours per week) so doing exercise which is convenient and effective are the most important issues for me.

Your BMI seems on the high side, I'd also recommend going to see your GP for an overall Health check - BP, Heart rhythms etc
Just to make sure you are ok to start training.
    Good Luck.
