O2 - Need a loaner?

    Hi all,

My brother in law has a farm in West Limerick he got a loaner from O2 sales guy of an O2 Broadband Wireless card. He said it tried it from his sitting room, and it worked but very slowly. I then pointed out that his house has 6 foot walls (200 years old) and that it was probably bad place to try it.

I said that his office, 1st storey build with very thin walls nearby was probably a better place, reasoning that if got a trickle of a signal through the 6ft walls a ground level, he may be ok at the office. He doesn't seem to be able to get the loaner again and I don't want to sign up to find out its doesn't work.

Anyone know where if can get a loaner from O2, kindof try before you buy ?

    Regards

    Ray Kinsella

I too use my o2 modem in west Limerick and while I have found it to be OK but not brilliant it is still better than what is available. I stay in a similar house with very thick stone walls as well and I find that the speed varies from place to place within the house. Logically I find that the signal is at its best when I am near a window but it is not terrible in other locations. I also use it while traveling around west Limerick and I have found it to be generally at its slowest in the Templeglantine/Barna area. Is it the Huawei E220 modem that he tried?

I don't know what loaner he got (I wasn't there :-( ) ... Does the kind of modem improve the signal ?

He is based in the Broadford area.

I am not entirely sure but he could have got a PCMCIA wireless modem instead of the USB one. The Huawei E220 modem is a USB modem and I think it might be worth checking which one he has as I think the USB one is better/faster.

I could loan you my one but I won't be around until well into the new year so he might have sorted it by then. If not you can drop me a line.

O2 do the 7 day return and refund if you have no signal. they should be able to give you a pretty good indication if you call them as to the signal in the locality though, could save you the hassle.
