caterers not answering enquiries for deposit refund

Hi, we recently had to cancel/postphone our wedding for a number of reasons. As we were due to be married in France in 4 months we'd paid out deposits to a number of places including a hotel for a group reservation, the function room and the caterers which is also a restaurant.

The owners of the function room as well as the hotel have been very understanding and refunded the deposits with no problems. All communication regarding this has been through email.

The caterers however after an initial response to both of us asking to confirm this was the case, which we both confirmed, have since stopped replying to emails. I have tried calling the restaurant a number of times and recieve answers such as the owner is at an appointment or on holidays, so I'm more or less sure that they are just avoiding us at this stage. I'm quite surprised as it is a very reputable restaurant and very well known in the region.

We cannot afford to lose this much money which was a 40% down payment for the entire wedding. It doesn't state anywhere in the contract that this is non refundable so I am wondering what is the best way to pursue this?

    Thanks for reading
