Apologies if this thread is in the wrong forum..

anyway, i recently purchased one of the above, 500Gb of storage etc for home videos on the tv etc.
It turns out it doesn't support wmv format.
neither did it support the avi's i made because of the codec used.
    what now are my options?

    regards and thanks

    kravist,

Have you tried the Iomega support forum located at:
    http://www.iomegasupportforums.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=11

The interesting thing about this device is that it seems to be very similar to other products such as Emtec Movie Cube-R100. You will find lots of info about modifying the firmware for these devices at:

    http://rtd1261.wikidot.com/

The Iomega has not yet been tested with hacked firmware but somebody seems to be working on it.

I have been looking at this device myself but one question I have not been able to answer, is wether or not you can copy the recordings from the 'REC' directory onto a laptop / PC / USB stick. The reason why I ask is that I plan to archive stuff from my Sky+ onto whatever device I get. I then want to be able to access these archived programs over the wireless network from a laptop or PC. Have you had a chance to try out the recording feature? If you can shed any light on this it would be much appreciated.

Also, did you try to get a wireless USB adaptor working on it? If so, which brand of adaptor are you using?

    Cheers,
    Butts.

    HI Butts,
    Thanks for your reply.
To be very honest, i haven't tried either of the two things you asked about and as i don't possess a wireless usb i'm unlikely to be trying it out soon! I really only got it on the recommendation of a freind who assures its a fantastic piece of kit. I'll ask him and get back to you.

It's quite limited in terms of the codecs and formats it supports e.g. no H.264, MKV or Full HD support. Maybe a future firmware upgrade will help, but it maybe limited by the chipset. Can you return it and buy a WD one instead, or a NMT device?
