The cost of FTA

I keep hearing on here how the price of programming for RTE will go up substantially if they were to go FTA due to overspill into neighbouring countries.

I'm just wondering, does anyone know how much extra BBC, ITV, C4 and C5 are getting charged for going FTA.

they simply pay transponder fees to Astra, nothing else as most programming is their own anyways

Do they even pay transponder fees? I thought Sky pretty much paid for it all.

Sorry, I prob didn't make myself clear.

For instance, how much extra would US networks be charging say ITV for programming, in the knowledge that ITV is FTA and would be available in other countries. I mean the channels in the other countries would be pissed off and hence the programming would prob cost more. Just wondering would it be much ?
