Moving from Eircom to Perlico

A friend of mine was considering a switchover from Eircom to Perlico
to take advantage of a pretty good all-in package they have on offer at the
    moment.
She was warned by somebody (I don't know who!) that she
would immediately lose access to her current eircom.net e-mail address
which she uses professionally and badly needs to hang on to.
Can this be true? Can Eircom somehow block access to their
e-mail server for ex-customers who have the cheek to move elsewhere
in search of a better deal? Surely not!

Lol! Whoever told you that is bull ****ting you. All you have to do is change the outgoing servers to that of your new provider. Eircom don't lock up e-mail account because you switch providers all it means is that to get support on the e-mail address you have to call a premium rate number.

Thats not true at all, Ive still got an Eircom email address from the old dialup days. To be honest though, should be replacing that email address if its used for business.

Only restrictions I have found is with setting up an eircom.net account from outside the Republic (years ago, not even sure you can get the free ones any more). You'd have no hassle accessing it from anywhere or any ISP.

You can set up a new eircom e-mail address you just have to be an eircom broadband customer.

Aye, back then they were still offering the free mail addresses. Used to use them for testing mail systems all the time. :p

you really should not use another companies email professionally (customer facing)......looks fairly bad........hosting and domain addresses are fairly cheap, grab one of those and ween your punters off the eircom one gradually would be my advice.

perlico are without doubt the worst broadband / phone provider in Ireland. I switched over to them and have had nothing but problems with them. Their customer service is awful, the prats on the phone being very ignorant and clueless beyond belief. The amount of download / upload you get on the broadband packages are awful, and they charge big money when you go over your limit. The speeds were never close to what they claim. To top it off I cancelled my account and returned to Eircom (no choice) in Dec 2008, yet it is now March and they are continuing to charge me for Broadband usage. I have cancelled my account 3 times !!! yet the bas**ards still refuse to accept it and now I have to bring them to court, unbelievable !!!! Anybody I know have had the same problems with Perlico, they are a disgrace....stay well clear of them !!!!!!

Given that the OP's issue has been resolved by Paul in Perlico I see no reason to leave this thread open so people can just rant and rave,

On a side note, Perlico advertise what their limits are, if you go over the limits and you are charges that not Perlico's fault it is 100% yours
