I called these shower of feckers last year when I moved into my new place and asked for the basic package (old cablelink, rte, utv, bbc ect.) as I had one of those boxes. They told me there was no such thing as the basic anymore and that I would have to get a NTL box - which package would I like - films, entertainment, sport ect. I told them just the bare minimum. When the fellas came out to the house with it, they told me that the fella in sales office lied and that they still offered the basic package. I never bothered to call them on it.
I put the NTL box in the bedroom as I had the other one in the living room. Anyhoo, a couple of weeks ago, the TV in the living room broke so I decided to watch TV in the bedroom. When I flicking through I noticed that I hadnt got permission to view certain channels and had to call them and pay extra. The next day, I was watching RTE2 and seen that there was a film that I wanted to watch on RTE2 starting in 10mins so I popped outside for a smoke and when I came back the message appeared saying that I didnt have permission to view this programme. So basically, because I didnt pay for the film package, I was prohibited from watching one on RTE2!!! :(

Has this happened to anyone else?? Also, if I am paying my TV licence, can they prevent me from watching a film on RTE?

Cable TV is Pay only. You also have to pay for RTE on Satellite, though BBC. ITV, C4 and Five are free.

If you want free Irish channels use a TV aerial or a dish for free Uk Channels.

However it's odd that RTE would be blocked on an official subscription and official box for one program unless you havn't paid?

Are have you not told us something?

I pay direct debit so that's not the issue and I could still view other channels at that time, it was just the film that I was not allow to watch as RTE2 came back on after the film. I have notice since that I am not allowed to watch films on other channels too but I thought I would be permitted to watch the ones on RTE because of the TV licence.

You shouldn't be blocked from watching movies on channels in a package you are subscribed to if you are not subscribed to the movie package. Thats not the issue here.

You may have the child rating too low and over 15 or over 18 films are blocked. Press the green key and enter 0000 as the code ( assuming you have not changed it from the default ). I get this sometimes with E4, never with RTE though.

So what you're saying is you have 'one of those boxes' in the living room and the NTL in the bed room and presumably when you get the the TV fixed you'll hook it back up to 'one of those boxes'?

Yeah you should definitely give them a shout on 1908 about the missing channels on 1908 especially since you are so good as to have a tv license...

That's why I couldn't be bothered helping on this one. The most likely cause of the problem has been mentioned though.

The NTL movie package basically just gives you access to the movie channels. You don't need it to watch movies on other channels that you normally have access to so something else is the problem. Like someone send it could be the child/rating lock. There's also sometimes a problem with the NTL boxes where they just decide you can't view a channel for a while. You can usually fix it by plugging the box out and plugging it back in, or plugging the box out, removing the card and giving it a wipe, put the card back in, plug the box back in.

The box is not the issue, I only mentioned it as the reason I haven't notice this before. It happened the other night also, I was watching Love Actually on RTE in the living room and I wanted to watch it in the bedroom but it said the programme it blocked, if I wish to view this programme - call the number below. it allowed me to watch the programme after though! Going to call them and ask but everyone says they are bad to get hold of.

You should make sure to mention that your other box is working fine, its just the NTL one that isnt working.
