How long will this journey take?

I'm currently a motorist, but given a proposed move at work I'm debating my options, as the traffic in the car will be to much, just looking for opinions on how long people estimate my new journey will take should i decide to cycle to work and more importantly is it viable?

I live in Booterstown /Blackrock and my job is moving to Parkwest.

    thanks in advanced.

Depends on your fitness levels, but 10 miles in 40-45 mins is generally quite doable once you're used to it. I don't know the exact distance involved in your commute. You could use http://www.dto-journeyplanner.ie/ to get an estimate of the distance. Btw, they tend to vastly overestimate the cycling times.

thanks for the link. In that case I think I can consider cycling as a viable option.

I used to do dun laoire to park west in about 50 -55 minutes. I used merrion ave, fosters avenue, dundrum, churchtown, walkinstown, long mile road route. It is not a bad cycle by Dublin standards, there are long stretches without traffic lights however there are a few sections of crap cycle lane around Churchtown which will force you to use the road. My memory of Park west is long delays for cars getting in and out of it so the bike would be a big improvement..

    +1 for that route.
There are also really long (car) delays between the Walkinstown roundabout and the Long Mile Road. And,again from the LMR, through the Naas Rd. and down the Kylemore Road.
Just driving that stretch would add about 40 minutes to your journey

Hi, I commute between Booterstown and Citywest and I think you should go through UCD in order to avoid Mount Anville (I can't face this "Col" so soon after getting out of bed). After that I go via Miltown, Dartry & Highfield Roads to Rathgar; then its straight all the way. This will also avoid what are arguably the worst cycle lanes in Dublin from Taney road all the way to Templeogue.
