Hey guys, I have to do a thesis on gambling for the course I am doing in college. Would appreciate if you could fill the questionnaire in for me. I tried to make it as easy to do as possible so shouldn't be too boring for you.

This will automatically close after 100 replies so thats what I need to try get to.

    Thanks for the help.

Cheers guys. Yeh I understand its fairly brief, but its only for a particularly small part of the thesis, not the overall thesis. I have a similar questionnaire done with a general discussion forum which has replies from the "general public". Its mainly just to compare the results from the two, there's already some interesting differences.

I'll post up some of the results when I get a chance after the 100 responses.

Ok lads, thanks for the replies. Just looking over them now so i'll give you a quick look at some of results!

Firstly I got 99 replies. 62 were Irish. There were also 23 from the UK, 4 from USA, 1 from Australia, 1 from Spain, 1 from Denmark and 7 from unknown locations.

The quickest anyone completed it was 42 seconds, the longest was some how 19 mins 11 secs :P, 10 mins longer than 2nd placed 9 mins 55 secs.

96 of the 99 replies were male.

38% of the people were aged 31-50, 34% aged 24-30, 27% aged 18-23 with only 1% of people aged over 50.

90% of people feel they are more exposed to gambling in recent years.

Although 60% of people say they have been gambling over 5 years. 22% of people say they have been gambling between 3 and 5 years, with a further 15% between 1 and 3 years.

83% of people choose to gamble online with the remainder choosing casino, bookie or betting exchange.

Poker is the most popular gambling activity with 35% of people particpating in it. Sports betting is a close second with 32%. Lotto and Casino's are the next most popular with 12% and 11% respectively.

When asked if people would continue to gamble if it was not as accessible to do so 52% of people said they would, 43% of people said not as much with the remainder saying not at all.

When asked Would you continue to gamble after a sustained period of losses the responses were: 38% said yes with smaller stakes, 33% said no they wud take a break, 25% said yes at their usual stakes and the remainder said they would increase their stakes.

For the written responses to why people started gambling the main reasons seem to be out of boredom/for entertainment and to make sports more interesting to watch.

However when asked the motivation in continuing to gamble the main responses were the love of the challange, the craving to win money and people felt they had an "edge" over everyone else.

    Cheers for the replies!

And before anyone replies giving out its just a small section of what I am doing! It didn't need to be a huge professional research. So thats the quick summary for you anyway.
