Any recommendations for a 4wd, 100hp (approx) tractor - in or around 20k euro? Is there much of a saving to be made by going north?

This is a very good time for the north, the exchange rate is good and tractors are generally cheaper there besides that. as per some of the links above, fiat 110-90 have a great reputation

Fiat 110/90 is a good rugged reliable tractor as is the less powerful 100/90, John Deere 6400 would also be a good choice, its 4 cylinder turbo, so its nice and hady but still packs 100hp. The 6506 or 6600 are also good machines but are a little bigger.

Ford's 7840 or even 7810 III are also good tractors, but as with nearly all tractors in the price bracket, how they were looked after will have far more of an effect on reliability, than make or model,

Case 5100's might also be in your price bracket depending where you look, the 5130, is about bang on the horse power and is fairly bullet proof mechanically.

What will you be doing with this tractor, loader work around the yard or general farm work, or something different.

Tractors in the north tend to be higher spec and looked after that little bit better, which could make the difference between a bargin and a nightmare. Not sure price wise how they compare.

check out www.gc2000, i wish i had 20k to spend on a tractor at the moment the value that can be got at the auctions is unreal, i have a jd 6400 myself and would have to say that it is pretty much bullet proof as i am not the best at maintenance and it still preforms day in day out, if you are doing yard work stay away from 6 Cylinders they are just to awkward.

Thanks for your replies. Tractor would be used for slurry, indoor silage feeding and general farm activities.

You should look at a Renault Ares or Celtis too. Depending on whether you want a 4 or 6-cylinder and how much room you have in your yard, you'll find something to fit the bill. These have John Deere engines fitted, too.

Any of you know anything about an MF6180? We would have to import it though it get one under the 20k euro mark.

The 6100 series massey were a good tractor but did give some electrical problems. The electric shuttle for instance was dodgy on the earlier ones but you can fit the mech shuttle on these units if you want as far as I know.
Advice would be to go mechanical shuttle if your looking for no problems.
Great turning circle on these for around a yard. The 6180 would be over 100hp and I'd ay you should pick one up under 20k in Ireland no prob, I'd guess at circa 16-20K for 1997-1998 model.
