    Hi rednik,

I see you got your amp.
I am gonna be in the market for one in January and up to now I have been looking at the Onkyos. Any particular reason why you went for the Denon?

    Thanks

    B~

    Hi Bazual
I had the Onkyo 705 which I bought at the start of the year, but with some new items coming from santa I needed an amp with an extra HDMI. The onkyo is a very good machine. I,ve sent you a pm.

Where'd you get it? How much did you pay? What TV & sources are you using with it? What do you dislike about it? Come on, tell!

Richer Sounds. £499... Samsung LE40M87B. At the moment only using my ipod through a Denon ASD-W3W dock.
However a Denon blu-ray player would match it quite well!
Also a PS3 will be purchased in the coming weeks ;)
As for dislikes? None at the minute!

Can't beat a recession for beating a recession!

Why the Denon BD player if you're getting a PS3 too?

I'm getting €750 in bonuses in the next week or so. Now, what to spend it on? Hmmm . . . XBox 360 + Mass Effect, maybe? PS3 + Dead Space, perhaps? Oooh, I know - that 50" Samsung for the kitchen! What's that dear? The corner couch for the kitchen? Yes dear . . . :o:(

    My time will come . . .

Ah yeah, made round to go around! What else would you spend it on

PS3 to me is for playing games :D
I just dread the thoughts of when the speakers have over 50 hours on them... My Neighbours won't like me

    Can't believe this.

This morning I had a look on richersounds.com and saw the 2309 had gone up from £499 to £549.

Just went in again now after my lunch and the 2309 is now £599!

    I'd have been placing my order for a 2309 next Monday . . .

Assuming that it's Denon dictating this, rather than RS, that's a load of clack. What the hell are Denon at?

This sucks. I had decided on a 2309 rather than a 1909 because the price was so good. I may have to reconsider the Onkyo 606 now. :(

This is a really dumb move given what's going on in the economies today.

    Denon: WHAT ARE YOU AT?

Did you ring the store? I have checked richersounds.ie and it doesn't list the 2309... Might be worth a bash, considering the price has gone up by £100. I bought from the shop and got a great deal from them on everything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭Mark#1

That's what I'm hoping. I'll have spent over €4000 or so (with RS) by the time I'm done, so I'm sure they'll do their best.

You could argue that £100 is small change when you're spending €4000, but I only decided on the 2309 (over the 1909 or SR606) when I saw you could get one for £500.

Now with STG rates going back up, the difference is emphasised.

You must be getting a fair lump of a systems? The 2309 has more then the 1909, I have to say I'm impressed with it. I take it you have been to the store and worked out what your getting? If they quoted you this maybe they will stick to it.

Not been to the store, but have had a fair bit of correspondence with John.

I've also wasted spent a lot of time researching, reading & asking questions on forums and sites.

I'll have a pretty well balanced set-up when I'm done (TH-50PZ80, AVR-2309, QAcoustics 1000i 5.1, DMR-EX88, Foxsat HDR, PS3, XBox 360 + the first decent DTT PVR that comes out), but this is a once-in-adulthood purchase: I've three kids under 8 that are only going to get dearer (and more expensive . . . :o see what I did there? ;) ) as they grow - I have this one opportunity to treat myself to some good gear now, and it'll have to last me till the youngest has flown the coup!

There's also my kitchen to kit out: hopefully Mrs Phaedrus will sanction another few sheckles for that - I plan to have one really good (relevant to my means) AV set-up in one room and a passably decent one in the other, so there'll be plenty for everyone in a house of 5 . . .

And of course a shotgun, just in case some fool took a silly whim . . . ;)

I do believe John will do all he can to get me the best overall deal he can, even if his hands are tied on Denon prices.

The PS3 & X360 will be bought from Game, which John suggested as a potential vendor - aparrently they're about 60 seconds walk from RS Belfast, IIUC.

I'm quite bothered by the Denon's price hike. I'd bet that when the look back over sales figures for Q1 08, they'll see AVR sales were higher than ever. OK, the profit-per-unit will obviously have been smaller, but they'll have sold more units than when their prices were higher.

Have you seen this review of the 2309? Anything you disagree with or would correct?

    Hi Guys,

The situation with the AVR2309 is the same as is happening across the whole industry at the moment - as sterling is so weak against the Euro /Yen / Dollar we are seeing massive cost price increases from all UK distributors as all their UK purchases are actually made in either Dollars or Yen (pretty much no one in our industry uses Sterling).

To give you a specific case - The AVR2309 - this product at cost has increased by 43% from the 1st of February - this has been dictated by Denon UK and is completely beyond our control - the revised recommened retail from Denon on the 2309 is actually now £829.99 so to be honest I think that you will see further price increases over the coming weeks on this product.

At the moment ALL Denon, Marantz, Mordaunt Short, NAD products are affected - some Onkyo products (not that they have much stock at the moment!) and several TV brands will also be affected. However we do have excellent deals on the Onkyo 876 coming (EURO €799!!) and the Pioneer range is also unaffected at the moment VSX1018 just £329.95 / VSX818 just £169.95 !!

Whatever happens - you know we will never be beaten on price and we will always offer our pricebeat on every product that we stock.

As ever drop me a line if I can assist in any way to johnmc@richersounds.ie

    Hi John,

How's stock of 2309s in black? I know you're working on my e-mail query on my overall order, but I'm particularly concerned about the 2309 now. I may order today.

I was lucky then as I bought mine back at the start of Jan. I couldn't read the review from the link posted, for some reson it would not open.
I mainly use mine for music through an ipod and Denon ipod dock.
The only issue I would have is the response time between both, can take up to a minute sometimes for it to pick up the ipod.
So why both the Xbox and PS3? Least your kids will think that they have a cool dad, you will have loads of fun trying to keep them away from it.
Next purchase for me will be a PS3 :D

XBox for Mass Effect & Halo, PS3 for PlayTV (hopefully), BD & Gran Tourismo.

    The kids'll be lucky to get near 'em . . . ;)
