Recommend a DTS decoder

    Hi,

I'm having trouble finding a DTS decoder that doesn't come with a DVD player and other extras. I have a Popcorn hour NMT which decodes everything but DTS, for which it passes through the raw data to be hooked up to an external decoder.

Anyways, I want to find a DTS decoder which doesn't come with loads of bells and whistles. Any ideas?

The latest firmware for the PCH A-110 downmixes DTS to stereo. So if you gave the A-110, try that.

Thanks. I'm on the A100 but it might have the same firmware. But anyway, I want to keep the DTS quality rather than downmix. I can convert to AC3 but its a pain in the ass especially when you sit down to watch a movie without realising its DTS.

I have a little DD/DTS decoder lying around here. It accepts a coaxial or optical bitstream input and will output 5.1 channels. Made by a crowd called JazzSpeakers I think, was made for ps2/xbox type thing.

Is that what you are talking about? or are you looking for a software decoder?

Yes thats the sort of thing I'm looking for. Hardware rather than software. You've pointed me in the right direction, seems I should be looking at the PC/console speaker market rather than home theatre :)

What about your AV receiver (assuming you use one), that will usually do the trick.

You can have mine if you want, but it is just a pre-amp, and you would still have to plug it into an amplifier of some description to get speakers working.

You are welcome to my old 6x100w amp too if you like, which is what I was using to accept the output from the decoder box.

Seriously? That'd be super. How much do you want for it? Can you get the model numbers for me so I can check them out?

Does your amp have a 6 channel input? If so you can see the spec of the JazzSpeakers DE006 that I (think I) have which can hopefully be found at this link.

No but it has a din socket, not sure if its 9 pin though I'll have to check it out.
