    Hi,

Im looking to have 3 precera crowns and 'zoom' whitening done on my teeth but its way too expensive in the republic to have done so im considering going abroad or up north to have the work done..

Has anyone had any good experiences with dentists up north and would like to recommend any one in particular? I would greatly appreciate it..

P.S: Judging by my last two HONEST threads I will probably get ridiculous replys back to this saying I am 'advertising' for all dentists outside the republic and if thats the case for this thread I have had it with boards...

Ive been waiting quite patiently for a decent reply but as of yet nothing but complaints so please excuse my frustration. I appreciate this is a free service so there is no need to be sarcastic. There are plenty of other free services online which are very useful and I would hope this would have been the same but to be honest it hasn't been that way so far.

Hi there, I just sent you a PM with the details of a good dentist up North. I think there might be some restrictions about putting actual dentists names and contact details up on the site as I thought I saw someone giving out about that on another post.

Anyways, I have a really good practice to recommend up North (totally calmed me down and I have to be the most nervous patient ever, they have really skilled dentists, a fab modern practice, offer conscious sedation for nervous patients and best still are way way cheaper than dentists down South)

So just wanted to post this up on thread also as if anyone needs a recommendation for up north, feel free to contact me.

For the record, I have no affiliation with the practice whatsoever other than finding them on google and taking a visit to them this week!

    :)

hi all - sorry i havent been on this in ages. I posted a lot of info on my clinic on a different post on here:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055443187&goto=newpost

I'll copy it in below here aswell in case anyone has any probs accessing it. Sorry its a bit long but will hopefully give people everything they need. :) Just to let you all know though that a few people I have given recommendation to have told me that they are not taking bookings now for a couple of weeks as they are so booked up. Give them a shot though as plenty of cancellations come up and you will def get an appointment once you can wait.

Its Appletree Dental in Newry (appletreedental.co.uk) They are based on Kilmorey street which is less than ten mins walk from the two main shopping centres in Newry (The Quays and The Buttercrane) I have been getting the train from Connolly station in Dublin up for my visits as I live in Dublin city centre. Train only cost €29 euro for a day return. Usually I hop in a cab then in Newry station to take me to town centre as station is a bit far out. Standard cab fare is £5.00. Alternatively my sister has told me its only a 50 min drive there from Ashbourne. Appletree clinic has plenty of parking directly outside it.

I have been to the clinic three times so far and genuinely could not recommend the dentists and clinic staff highly enough. The value for money is second to none. And the practice and facilities and excellent and very modern for example on my first appointment I found out I had a load of work to do (as per previous post). They give you a treatment plan with a mini printout of your xray on the top so you can see exactly what you are going to be having done at each of your visits (I have about 6-7 visits to go so it was really useful for me to have) It shows the expected cost of each of your visits so you can budget accordingly and also links the activities in the appointment to the teeth in the xray so it shows that in your second appointment you are having root canal on tooth number 5 etc. This might be standard, I dont know. But I thought it was very good.

The owner and dentist I have been going to is called Katrina, she has been excellent. I cant over emphasise how nervous I was going up and she has just been brilliant to deal with and I am really overcoming my dental fears and dental problems because of her. I also met the guy who is going to do my wisdom teeth extractions. His name is Conor and he specialises in Oral Surgery etc. He couldnt have been more helpful and spent 20 mins going through the wisdom teeth situation with me and all my options etc.

The costs of my visits have been my main driver for going up North. I paid £120 sterling (under €130 euro at the time) for my first visit a few weeks ago. This included a 20-30 min checkup and consultation, xrays, 2 small fillings. I know from talking to people here that fillings down South cost anywhere between 60 and 140 euro depending on who you were talking to so this was really good value.

My root canal cost £130 sterling (the root canal filling will be about another £100 I think and this will be done on next visit) I talked to a guy in work the other day who said his root canal procedure cost him almost a grand here. I don't know where he got it done but it just gives people a sense of it.

All the prices etc are on their website. Go to the 'About Us' section and you will find their fee guide.

I'm not trying to diss the dentists in the south in any shape or form. I'm just telling people about my experience and giving people the choice. I'm getting married next year and cant afford to spend a fortune getting my dental work done (or my guests will be eating beans and toast!) so that was the main driver of looking into going up North for me.

On a related point, I have done some other shopping up North and the prices are excellent value. Don't let other people tell you its not. I know we are in recession (ban that word) and should be supporting local shops etc but at the same time if you are affected by redundancies and job cuts like we are, then you have to buy as cheaply as you can. Some examples of price differences:
I priced Wii fit up north and it was about 20 euro cheaper. The xbox lips game was 15 euro cheaper (the south prices i checked were argos prices)
Clarins Multi Active Day Cream is 54 euro in Clerys. Its 35 euro up North (that was on last weeks exchange rate of about .88) Anyways, just to give people some info.

Good luck with all the dental pursuits!

Guys as Fiona kindly mentioned Appletree dental care has a great reputation but unfortuantly is really booked up a lot of the time. I looked elsewhere in Newry and found 'Enlighten Dental care by Fiona Quinn.

The prices are fantastic, its a brand new state of the art surgery, the staff are great and it appointments are pretty fast to get at the moment because it is still a very new surgery. Fiona worked with another very popular dentist (o'hagan omurrey in newry) for 20 years before just recently starting her own practice.

I am currently getting Nightwhite whitening and 3 precera crowns done. I have been there for 2 visits so far and I have 2 to go for the fitting of my crowns and I am looking forward to my next visit.

Hope some people get some use out of this.

    Hi,

I dont have an email address for them unfortunatly and they are in the process of having a website designed so the best thing to do at the moment for more info is to give them a buzz on the number I provided in my previous post.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Thats quite the generalization. To be fair being "ripped off" up North is still probably 40% cheaper than getting work done in Dublin.. lol.. Being quoted a minimum of €3000 for 3 crowns and whitenening in numerous dentists in Dublin is what I would consider a "rip off" considering what I am paying now is £1100 for the same job in the nicest dentist surgery I have ever been in,friendliest staff and so far a very high standard of work which I can appreciate since ive been in and out of Dublin dentists for 15 years since I had my teeth smashed.

Even if the price im paying was doubled to £2200 I would pay it to go to Enlighten Dental Care because of how well they treat me and it would still work out a few hundred cheaper than the dentists in Dublin!

    From the charter

    4) NEW No threads about the relative cost of dental treatment allowed. Post in consumer issues ( http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=580 )if you have a problem about the cost of dental treatment in Ireland. I am happy for people to discuss treatment and problems or enquire about general costs of a treatment but no threads starting " Rip Off Dentists here" or the like. I don't think the fact you got 7 fillings and 12 root canals on the NHS for 5 pounds has any relevance here.

Sorry guys thread locked, take it to consumer issues.

    Hi guys,

As my previous popular thread giving useful information about dentists up North has been locked for promoting terrorism or something along those lines I have decided to start another thread but this time I will be careful not to mention pricing.

In which case I have found a great dentist surgery in Newry with whom I am currently having crowns and whitening done and I am extremely happy with the work so far.

The surgery is state of the art and the prices are needless to say "VERY COMPETITIVE" definitly worth the 1 hour trip up in the car!!

I would be only delighted to recommend this dentist to people and help them with any information they need so please do not hesitate to PM me and I will give you all the details that I cannot specify here.

    Cheers and happy bargain hunting!

I locked this thread, and you instantly start this other thread? Everyone can still see this thread and your recommendations, what more do you want. This is the second or third time you have done this. Are you on commission?
