    Hi

    I have a ripwave working fine to my desktop

    added a wireless netgear towgr 683 mod 7 to get my laptop in

    wireless is fine but it can't seem to get a wan DHCP off the ripwave - but when I plug the ripwave directly back into the desktop all is fine again

    Tried all the settings in the router control nothing seems to make a difference - it's like something to do perhaps with ripwave/ethernet duplex/speed settings
    but as it's wan there's no packet snooping I can so.
    - the netgear is reporting 10mb half duplex but there's no way to pin it to full duplex

    anyone any ideas ?

    TIA

    T

    Are you sure you have typed the Netgear model correctly? no Netgear WGR-683 listed.

    Is it a DSL only or ethernet router? You need an ethernet Router, one with a built in DSL modem wont work.

    Will post the correct details later.

    Checked and it's got the latest firmware.

    Physical Interfaces

    * Internet/WAN: 10/100 Mbps (auto-sensing) Ethernet, RJ-45
    * LAN: 4 ports 10/100 Mbps (auto-sensing) Ethernet, RJ-45

    Look at PC network TCP/IP properties with Ripwave connected direct.
    Write down settings.
    Put those settings into the WAN/Internet section of the Netgear, NOT the LAN / local part.

    Make sure the Ripwave is ONLY connected to the 5th special WAN ethernet port, not any of the 4 regular ethernet "switch ports".

    Power off ripwave and netgear and power up again after 15 seconds.

    You may have accidently plugged ripwave to an ordinary port, not WAN port.

    Note that for virtually all Internet Modems and particularly Ripwave, 1/2 Duplex 10Mbps is not a problem. You would need an Internet package faster than 4Mbps, (Ripwave isn't that fast), to need better connection.

    Hi, did you ever get this resolved? I am experiencing the same issue. IBB don't give a static IP address with the RIPWAVE connection I have and the IP address on the ripwave device chanegs often.

    It seems like the RIPWAVE device will give an IP address to a PC directly connected to it, but not to a router. Anyone got any ideas?

    Cheers...

    Properly set up there is no difference between a PC and a Router. The Router MUST be the ethernet WAN kind (ripwave plugged into 5th special WAN port). A Router with built in ADSL won't work.

    If the router WAN port has the same settings as the working PC, then the router looks like a PC to Ripwave and works.

    Clone the MAC of the PC to the WAN port of the router and it will work, that or leave it off for 15 - 20 mins and reboot ripwave with router connected via WAN, that was what worked for me when forced to use RipOFFwave few years ago.

    Indeed, what he says ^^^^^^^^
    Also applies to some cable networks. Some Routers have a clone feature, others don't and then it's not simple. If you arn't expert at this kind of stuff, leaving the Ripwave unplugged for 1/2 hour should allow it to use the Router's default MAC.

    Thanks for all the help here. I had alreadry tried cloning the MAC address to the router. It didn't work.

    I did get the NETGEAR router to work briefly, but as sson as I applied any config change, the router failed to pick up any IP address from the RIPWAVE again.

    I have reverted to a ZyXEL router that just works every time, as I really couldn't be bothered wasting any more time on the NETGEAR router.
