    Hey guys,
Been wanting to join a club for a few years now, but was always stuck with the problem that any club near enough to play regularly was just too expensive to join. With the current economic crisis hitting golf clubs hard, does anyone know if either Hermitage or Lucan Golf Club are likely to be lowering their entrance fees any time soon?

dont know much about clubs in the lucan area, but Kileen G.C members seem to leasing out their membership. Guy on ebay is looking for €960 for a year, kileen would be 20 minutes or so from lucan, near K Club.

Hermitage is still very much an old boy's club with waiting lists and interviews to get in. Then you start as a 5 day member. Then if a place opens up, usually a year or two, you'll be offered full membership. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Lucan might be a better prospect, given that they've put a fair bit of money into the place in recent years and might need to clear some loans. Last I heard though you still needed two nominations and an interview.

Elm Hall, out the Celbridge road might be the best option if you're intent on staying local, though it's a 9 hole/18 tee layout afaik. I had a flyer through the door a few years back about a membership drive and they were asking ~€4k, which I thought was steep, but they might be more approachable nowadays.

Have a look at Kilcock GC, I played there during the summer, they had just reopened the front nine after a major make over and the back nine is now closed for the same. I have to say for the green fee the course was great value. I reckon it will be a tasty course when finished. I not saying it will be in the country's top courses list but great for the money.

I dropped in there a few years ago and it was €4.5k. Felt like laughing at your man. Annual fee wasn't cheap either.

As milltown said they might be more approachable now.

Not sure what the story is with Grange Castle. Could give them a shout. Been a few years since I have played there

12k to join Lucan GC this year but you can spread that payment out over 3-5 years I think. Annual sub is ~€850.

With the deals currently flying around, and with some of the holes closed for a while, will Lucan really get any new members at 12k? I've played it a few times and wasn't overly impressed to be honest. Location is its main advantage for me, being 2 minutes from the house. Definitely wouldn't pay any more than 3k to get in to be honest.
I know Grange Castle have had a waiting list for the past few years, though that may have changed now. I'd love if they had membership options like Elm Green and Hollystown, where you can pay a larger amount for unlimited free golf. As far as I know, it's just an 'associate membership' scheme, where you get discounted green fees.

That Elm Hall price is insane. Have they any members at all? Greens are only ok, clubhouse is rubbish. Only saving grace is it's pretty easy, so it's good for a confidence boosting score.

I very much doubt it. Depends on the individual I suppose.
