Panasonic TH42PY8EY

I was looking at buying a Panasonic TH42PY80EY but Harvey Norman have the 42PY8EY plus a blue ray player on offer for €1,199.

Is this a decent deal or am I better off paying the extra few quid for the PY80? Is there much of a difference between the two sets? I have SD Sky and obviously will have the blu ray as well if I buy.

    Any help appreciated.

the py80 is a better set. more inputs but the main difference is in the contrast ratio. colours are more vibrant on it

    Thanks for the reply.

I've just seen this offer on shop@panasonic and I think I'm going to take it. Seems like a great deal to me. Just waiting for them to come back to me to confirm delivery, which I think is around €30.

    TH42PY80EY + Blu-Ray Player + 5 Year warranty @ €1,299

The Harvey Norman offer had only one year warranty.

That's a great price for ROI.

It's about time Irish sellers started offering products at fair prices.

Just bought the PY80+BluRay+5year warranty... cracking...

One question... THE PY is the irish version (with the irish tuner installed)...

However the spec says it comes with DVB-T capability...

Anyone know how to use/access this functionality ?

I'm concerned they removed the uk tuner+dvb-t and replaced with irish tuner with no dvb-t capability...

    Any info appreciated..

it doesnt have any class of DVB tuners. Panasonic take out the UK tuner and put an irish tuner in. so the only thing the tuner can receive is UHF/VHF analogue signals

anyway, when the government officially launch DVB over here they are going to use MPEG4 so no UK spec tuner will work as they are all MPEG2

I was in Belfast on Friday for a gig and I ended up buying the PZ80 version in Richer Sounds for £799 with 5 year warranty. Couldn't resist that price especially with the currency rate at the moment.

Now all I have to figure out is how to get it down to Cork from Dublin :)

I presume I'll be alright down south with the PZ80 rather than the PY80?

the PZ doesn't have an irish tuner. so you'll need a digital decoder to receive TV channels

Thanks. That's just for channels coming in from the ariel is it? I should be ok if tht's the case because I only use Sky for my tv viewing.
