Magazines v Internet

    Hi Everyone

I was thinking about marketing and promotions and after talking to some retailers does anyone still buy martial art magazines ? (besides having a quick flick through at the magazine stall). Do people read anything outside their scoop of interest?

Or has Internet with the the multitude of websites, forums, blogs taken over from the need of buying magazines, where we can get instant information of nearly every style, training, contact etc... at our finger tips and we can check places like you tube to see these arts in action.

Interested in your thoughts on this.

    Liam

Yeah two blackbelts that used to teach me always had loads of health & martial arts magazines (and not just a pile of old ones) around the club.. One advantage of the web is you can have video..

I still like buying the odd martial arts magazine, wouldent buy them as much as I used to as the internet/forums provides a lot of info these days.

But I still like reading about different arts and seeing how different instructors apply their techniques.

i buy irish fighter and fighter's only or whatever that mma mag is called jointed edited by creamer just to support the irish. if you want up to date irish ma info you need to google it and hope or catch it on boards. the mags will always be a month or two behind.

I'd love to get Irish Fighter. I only have 1 issue. Its never in the shops, it must have a limited circulation. I get Martial Arts Illustrated and Combat when I can't get Irish Fighter. I have over 20 combat mags and 4 MAI's.

It's in Easons every quarter. Failing that, you could always subscribe to it and have it sent to your house.

The only magazine I regularly buy is Irish Fighter.

I occasionally will buy a MMA magazine if I'm desperate for something to read, but in general I find them quite dire.

Combat and Martial Arts Illustrated used to be quite good (over five years ago) with interesting and well written pieces, but they've gone way downhill too.

For news, events, results etc, it's the internet all the way.

I feel compelled to buy Irish Fighter when I see, even though it's 90% crap. There can be some good articles in it from time to time though, for example I learnt the Value of Walking Away recently. :pac:

Fighters Only is ok, but MMA mags all seem fairly samey and boring to me in general, unless I just wanted something mindless to read for a while.

Yeah, MA mags can be really same, but just like everyone else here i tend to support Irish Fighter. If i am going to buy a magazine it's normally going to be when i am traveling somewhere and will be something like New Scientist so that people on the plane with me think i am smart.

I used to do that, but found that women were intimidated by someone intelligent and who ressembles a Greek God. So now I ugly myself up and pretend to be stupid whenever I leave the house.

If anyone has suggestions for what they would like to see in FightSport magazine, don't hesitate to contact me. darragh@fightsport.fr

a laptop is just too awkward to bring into the jacks.

I read magazines more for motivation than anything else.

I quite like New Scientist actually, except for that fact that half of the thing is generally taken up with job adverts.

I get the Irish fighter. Pity they didnt bring out more of them. Have to say its more for the events section etc. They have some good articles but I feel there could be more of them.

Aside from that Ill get mai or combat the odd now and then of theres a few articles I like.

The advantage of the net is that you always have the latest info at your fingertips.
