Teaching English without a CELTA/TEFL cert

Is it essential to have a CELTA cert or some similar qualification if I want to teach English abroad. I have a BA in History and I will be finished the postgrad in Primary teaching this coming May/June.
This is a FETAC Level 9 course AFAIK, so I am wondering if that would be sufficient to teach English abroad (particularly Europe)??

Most European countries would require a CELTA/TEFL cert, if you check some of the TEFL websites [like i-to-i] it will give you details.

In Asia you can get away with just a Higher Degree.

Allow me to refer you this earlier thread. Should give you the info you need. I would just add that teaching adults a mixture of knowledge, general communication and specialist business skills is a different skill set from teaching kids (which personally I find a helluva lot more difficult.)
