Golf GPS Devices - iGolf Neo

    I decided to get one of these recently as I am looking forward to a) knowing exactly how far I am from the green / pin and b) knowing exactly how far I hit all of my clubs.

    I didn't want to actually spend much on the device and was not gone on the large form factor of most of them, so actually opted for a little known US device called the iGolf Neo. This is one of the smallest devices on the market and is also quite cheap at about €100. I also didn't want to have to buy a device that makes you stump up an annual fee to get access to courses.

    Only downside is that this one doesn't even have many Irish courses mapped yet - only has about 90 or so, however it is simple to map a course yourself. This is what I will do for my home course and the others I play regularly. The iGolf guys then give you course credits when you send them on mapped course files.

    Wishful thinking perhaps, but I thought I would just post here to see if anyone else has ever contemplated getting this device over the many others out there ? Or does anyone out there have one of these as well (someone must have mapped those 90 courses) ?

    Haven't had the chance to try it yet given the baltic weather, but hopefully will get a chance to try it out soon.

    when they bring one out that actually tells you where abouts in the rough your ball is i'll be a happy camper.. :D

    You will be dissapointed if you think you are going to know 'exactly' how far you are from anything. Most of these cheap devices are opnly accurate to +/- 10 metres. Making them worse than useless for golf imo. They could be telling you that you are 2 clubs closer than you are.

    Laser range finders, as used by the pros (and the military when they really need to know exactly how far away something is); are the current best tool for this kind of thing imo. gps just isn't accurate enough for golf.

    Don't agree. You may be talking about gps 10 years ago; or using it in worst case scenario conditions (under trees behind a building) I've been out with a sureshot gps device about 6 times and it has never been less accurate than 1-2 metres (based on measurements at the front/back of green and course markers as I pass them). I don't know about anyone else but I don't need anything to be more accurate than that.
