****. just got a call from my bike shop, telling me that the bike i ordered to arrive around today won't be in until the second week in January. not their fault the problem was with the importers. but out of curiosity, if you had up to 1500e to spend on a mountain bike to ride fast xc type stuff but that isn't afraid of small jumps and knarly sections what would you recommend thinking of bikes in the 100mm front travel category.. hydraulic DB's would be nice too?

ok just its impossible not to have second thoughts when buying a bike. had ordered a Trek 6700 so really wondering if anyone had other suggestions or praisings for the bike?

I have a Trek 6700 (2007 model), I think its a great bike. Traditional in design / gemoetry but does everything right. The 2009 version with the new Shimano SLX groupset looks very nice. The RSP on the Uk trek website is £950 which at current exchange rates is €1045. If your paying €1500 I think your being ripped off. I know trek won't allow there bikes to be sold over the net but it would be worth a trip up North at that proce difference.

That cotic build for that price is nice.

Could go with a giant xtc (09) frame if an alu frame holds interest. Would come in slighly cheaper allowing for a more pricey fork (Pike 454? - http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=product&productId=873&categoryId=18)

Build would be e1465 so a bit more than the cotic

i'm actually paying 1300 for the 6700 but still, i might have a check about up north hmmmm. i only said 1500 as a limit....
