    Hi,

My Dad passed away a couple of weeks ago and my Mum said she was told that she could claim his state pension for up to six weeks after his death.
Can any of you tell me if she can, as she doesn't want to if she will have to pay it back?
I know that she will receive half of his state pension from here on.
I assume there would be some sort of policy in place to financially see people through the initial stages of obtaining death certificates, bereavement grants etc?
I have arranged death certs etc and am just waiting for the funeral bill to arrive before applying for the bereavement grant for her, and I have enough money to see her through any difficulties, but I don't want her to have to ask me for money any time she needs it in this difficult enough time.

    Thanks for your help

Hi there & condolences on your loss. Have been there too and know first hand that trying to deal with your own loss and look after your mother too is very hard - but you'll get there. We {brothers & I} found that phoning citizens advice in the early weeks was a great help and they have all the answers at their finger-tips. We didn't have pension queries though cause my dad wasn't at pension age but I am sure they'll assist.

    Best of luck.......
