Why Shouldn't I buy this??

So basically what I want is a reasonably decent projector at a budget of around 350, for mainly watching movies, with a possibility of gaming (PS3).

I only plan to have this in a fairly small area, with screen size of about 40". it'l be as dark as I need it to be so the lumens thing isnt a problem.

I'm more concerned about the whole resolution thing, (the whole native/max distinction).

Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't buy the "Oley D8HD" on ebay for 350???

    Hey psychopat

I wouldn't go near this projector for anything to do with Movies, Gaming.

This is bacially an XGA projector which has a tuner and HDMI to fool people into thinking your getting something for the Home Theatre.

The minimum resolution you should have in any home theatre projector is 720p or (1280 x 720) and it should be Native 16:9. XGA is (1024 x 768) which is native 4:3 so to show any movie or gaming content your projector will need to streach the image.

If this is your budget, I would be more inclined to go for a well known brand with similar spec e.g. Optoma, BenQ, Mistubishi etc.

I dont think you will find a projector for this pricing with a HDMI connection but this is not important as a basic VGA cable will carry XGA resolution which is the maximum this projector can support.

To get a similar projector to the D8HD you should look at the business range of the brands mentioned above with an XGA res, 2000 lumens. This will give you the similar quality & performance and include a good warranty.

    HTH

Ok i'm looking at the optoma HD 65, seems like a popular option from all accounts. a bit more than i planned on spending, but these things always are. just one more question, will there be any trouble if i get one from the states or canada because of different formats of video outputs and stuff?
