Meh, was going to move to Comp and Tech, but looks like it is sorted now. I'll lock in a bit instead if that works for you. Please remember though that this is a poker forum, sort of.

Edit: Someone else moved it. Makes my first edit look a bit silly.

i have worked in places where i have had a start menu on a couple of monitors despite only using one computer

Was it spanned or each had an individual Start button? XP doesn't have the ability to have multiple Start menus internally..

Sorry for hijacking but I have a similar problem.
Again I have a second monitor cannected to my laptop, if I go to open a new table on my second monitor it opens up on the laptop even when I have my lobby on the second monitor, same thing happens if I am playing a mtt and get moved to another table it opens up on the laptop, very anoying.
    How can I solve this?

what do you mean by table? Excel spreadsheet?

when you say start menu do you mean the menu its self. of the task bar at the bottom so you can click on the program ?

If you mean the start button - i have never seen that - other than if you are connected using a remote desktop (or citrix)... but if you were doin things like that... you would know about it.

there is a program that i use here thats handy for multi monitor. I cant see the name of it right now. will seperate the program on one screen to one task bar, and same with the other screen. its nice.
    UltraMon its called !

hmmm. i see this now and again alright too. it is annoying alright. I dont think i can help you with this one :( it should have to do with the default location for new windows. but that should be right beside your old one.

UltraMon is the mack daddy of dual-screening on Windows, and is well worth the money.

MultiMon replicates most of its functionality for free apparently, I've never used it.

Both should let you move windows from one screen to the other with one click.
if I go to open a new table on my second monitor it opens up on the laptop even when I have my lobby on the second monitor
Try moving the new table window back to the second monitor, then closing it there. Re-open it and see if it opens on the second monitor. It should remember it was closed and re-open in the same place.

Improver, you cant really. Unless you set the monitor as your main screen.
The second screen isn't a "new" desktop, its just an extension, the comp trys to open new windows on the laptop screen, or the next bit of free space.

    Some things to try,
Right click desktop and go to properties.
Go to display settings, you should see two icons of your two screens,
Firstly, both should be max res. Click the extend the desktop button. Next position the two icons where you want them in relation to each other. I have my moniter above my laptop.
now, there should be a check box to move control which is the main monitor
If you make the monitor the main screen, new windows should open here, and the laptop can be used to reun Tracker, Boards, 2+2 etc

Try moving the new table window back to the second monitor, then closing it there. Re-open it and see if it opens on the second monitor. It should remember it was closed and re-open in the same place
That won't work, i'm not sure if you are familar with poker clients, but if he is moved table in a MTT, he won't be aware of this before hand, nor will he know which one. Huis problem is that each cash table or tourney table defaults to the laptop, which he must then move to the new screen. Its not getting them to stay there, but the orignal move that mess the flow, esp if you are playing 8+ tables

Fair enough, I'm not familiar with the poker client, but if each new table opens up in a generic program window then what I described would have a good chance of working.

Another option would be writing a script in Autoit or Autohotkey which would switch the window to the other monitor the instant it opens...there are a few examples which google can find easily enough.
