Ok so Max Brooks won't save you here. in fact, he'll avoid the hell out of you.

The Situation: It's the week before Christmas, and you're in Dublin, doing some shopping. A protest over education budget cuts turns nasty when a student who has been abroad has contracted the z-virus, and starts eating his classmates. All too late, you find yourself surrounded [one group from DCU, another from UCD] in the city centre. To make matters worse, the army have been called in to cordon off the M50 and shoot anyone going that direction on sight. The Navy are patrolling Dublin Bay, turning ships back.

Additional Information: You are shopping and are hence in the Henry St./Grafton St. area, and options to go north/south of the canals are out of the question, as there's a horde approaching from the respective directions. Escaping by boat at this time is unwise as army snipers have taken residence on the L.E. Eithne [boat] offshore Poolbeg Power station [the chimneys].
You have a few somewhat z-orientated friends with you, but their experiences are limited to watching "Shaun of the Dead" and the "Dead Rising" game. One is an engineer, the other a veterinary student.

What do you do, where do you go?

Hmmm, this one requires some thinking. My initial thought would be to barricade myself in a top floor of a building with a easily blocked off fire escape, then consider my options.

But that's just off the top of my head!

I'd rob their boat and row like hell.

Students make poor human beings, I can't imagine they'd be any better at being zombies. I'd kill them all!

I would head to the Star Bucks above BT2 on Grafton street.

Gathering caffeine and running like hell. I would then head to Dandelion and barricade the hell out of that place.

If I was in the Henry St. area I head to Mary St. to the Martial Arts shop and tool up with some blades. Think there is a hardware store nearby too.
Millets is across the road if wasn't being looted by students desperate for ex-military clothing you could always barricade the entrance or the stairs. IIRC the ready-to-eat meals and gas stoves are upstairs. Plenty of water in the tanks of the attic and lots of purification tabs there too.

Ok so I'd imagine running around to do some survival shopping is out of the quesetion with all of the hordes and I'm sure the virus would spread quickly with all the people. I think I'd head for Merrion square and try to break into one of the Georgian houses. They're solid and it would be pretty easy to barricade the stairwell.

From there we could gather what we could from the various rooms and start formulating a plan to either escape (probably not, as we're right in town) or to start looting for food. I think surviving for a week would be long enough to start considering going out for supplies.

I'd go to gtw, itd be simple to barracade the stairwell...
"using a chair, you barracade the stairwell"
...we'd have an internet connection so we could check the report on ireland.ie/com whatever it is.

Krom ;] Man, we gotta head to Subway & then camp it out in GTW for some free CoD4! Seriously though, having been in (not involved in) the last riots in Dublin I can imagine the panic & whatnot going on. So I'd probably head to a random Centra somewhere. Take it over, put the shutters down & just relax until the army run out of bullets & the zombies head out into the country. O.o

Then I'd hit-up Starbucks for a Frappechino before heading back to Centra. Plus print out a few lotto tickets. O.o

hold up there til the riots die down to some minor pillaging and then try get somewhere safer :D

And I fairly sure zombies can't skate. Instant win! Use your skates to do them in.

Take the heaviest wieldable blunt object from the shop and work my way through the UCD students.:pac: The DCU students would be foreign nationals or quite tough as they live near ballymun so the UCD trust-funders would be the better option
