Coming back from injury - advice needed

    I fractured a bone in my pelvis a few weeks before the Dublin Marathon and have been unable to run since then. According to the MRI it seems to be healing ok and I can now walk without pain. I've missed running soooooo much!

    So I'm now in a position to start planning my return in the new year. I've been advised that I can start running again in late January and I want to have a plan before then. Although I have been able to return to swimming over the last few weeks my fitness has totally disappeared.

    Does anyone have any advice or experience on returning to running after such a long break? Obviously I want to build up slowly and sensibly but I'm really eager to get back to regular running with a couple of speed sessions and long runs at the weekend. Should I go for something like a 'couch to 10km' plan or is there something else out there? I was hoping to get my 10km PB down to 45mins (from 47:30) this spring but that might be asking too much now. Any opinions?

    I had a leg out of action for just over a month last year from a skiing injury and due to muscle wasteage it then took a good while longer before I was able get into action with the running again so do not try and rush into anything too quickly. I'm now also only just thinking about starting back with some very easy running again after a stress fracture brought on by the Dublin Marathon.

    Don't know how inactive a break in the pelvis would have made you over the last while, but it's probably worth seeing a sports physio or similar so that your sure that everything is all back working proerly again and getting some specific excersises to build up again after the lack of activity over the last months.
