Sweden leads FTTH in Europe with 8.3 mln subs - study Tuesday 16 December 2008 | 06:09 AM CET

Sweden, Norway and Slovenia are the leaders in the European ranking of FTTH penetration with 8.28 million, 7.22 million and 4.72 million FTTH subscribers respectively, according to a European ranking issued by the FTTH Council Europe. Iceland ranked fourth with 3.90 million FTTH subscribers, followed by Denmark with 3.11 million subscribers. More than 80 percent of the total homes connected to FTTH across Europe can be found in six countries. The ranking makes clear that FTTH has still a long way to go in the largest countries. According to the new market research conducted between June 2007 and June 2008, France demonstrated the highest growth of any European nation with over 118,000 new subscribers. Norway took second place with over 69,000 new subscribers, whilst Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Slovenia all followed with over 30,000 new FTTH subscribers. The official FTTH-ranking is designed to provide the telecommunications industry, governments and regulators with a snapshot of fibre access penetration across the continent.

Something is wrong with this report. The entire population of Iceland is only 320,000. Even if all the sheep and cows had Broadband connections, they would hardly have 3.9 Million...The actual figures in the original report represent percentages, not Millions as suggested. Nevertheless, some impressive figures.
