No stamps, No Illness Benefit?

    Hi All
A mate of mine has a problem (no really, its a mate :))
His GF has just finished her masters degree and is trying to look for work. They are living together and she knows if she signs on they will be means tested and she will receive practically nothing.
At the moment he's supporting her but they're living hand to mouth.
Also, at the moment she's quite ill with a long term respiratory disease. She could meet the criteria for unable to work. Problem is, as she's been in college for so long, she has no stamps to fall back on and can't claim any illness benefits.......or have I got this wrong?
I guess my question is, is there anything they can do as to see them going through this is pretty hard and though we help as much as we can, they're very unhappy.
    Cheers in advance guys

    HB

Below is a link on the different types of Illness Benefit available:

A point: Receiving "practically nothing" on jobseekers (which is what she should be applying for) is better than receiving nothing. Have pasted the link for jobseekers below:

Cheers yeah, I think she had a bad experience before when she was living in another house, not with him, and the social welfare people wouldn't believe that she wasn't "living" with the guy she shared the house with and gave her a hard time, practically accusing her of being a liar to her face.
Plus for reasons best known to themselves, they told her that her local social welfare office was in Gort, even though they live in the suburbs of Galway city, so getting there to sign would be a problem for them as she can't drive.

    Thanks for the advice anyway....
