Strange light in Meath

This had been playing on my mind recently.

About a week ago I was driving on the N2 north of Ashbourne quite late at night when I saw a strange light in the sky.

I'm not saying it was a UFO, or of extraterrestrial origin, but it was just a solid red-light, quite bright, not blinking, cross the sky over me quite slowly from left to right.

Normally with most aircraft you see blinking red and white lights on port and starboard. This was just a solid red light, definitely electrical in characteristic and not one of those Chinese lamps.

It took about 6 seconds to pass over and appeared to be at a fairly low altitude.

Again, I'm not saying this was a UFO, but does that pattern of light(s) ring a bell with anyone in terms of being a regular aircraft?

It looked very much like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxhVcwfABhE&feature=related

...except it was more red in colour and appeared to be almost directly overhead of me traveling from right to left at around 200 knots.

I'm not saying it was a UFO, all I saw was a single well defined bright red light and I was originally wondering if any civilian aircraft would have that pattern of light as I've never seen it before.

Dude, I know the difference between a sunset and something flying overhead at speed that looked like it should have been on a Christmas tree.

Was it possible that Mars or another planet was visible that night? Also the rotation of the earth would make it look as if it was moving at speed.

It moved in my field of vision from about 10 o' clock to 3 o'clock in about 5 seconds. I don't think the earth spins that fast.

It could also have been a meteor called a fireball.

Nope, it was a very solid, defined and unwavering/unblinking red light.

Well Ive heard that there has actually been a growing trend in the general Meath area of people catapulting burning Christmas trees across the night sky for recreational purposes...this may be a clue as to the origin of this Strange Light.
