Pubs on Christmas Eve?

I will be landing back in town at 7 on Chrismo eve, and I think a lot of pubs in town will be closed or 'locked in' after 6...

This is the first Christmas eve in Galway in AGES (apart from last year in a hotel), so I am not sure what keeps regular hours on 24th.
I would love to pop somewhere for a drink en route home in town (I am guessing mellow is out of the question, but that would be nice:rolleyes:).

Any ideas for town?..I am usually a Neachtains regular, so something along those lines. Westside grand too:p

I'm only going for 1 or 2 pints this XMas eve, i'm sick of being hungover on XMas morning (and have to be up early for the swim ) - I dare people to break the Irish tradition of being stuck in a pub all evening. Instead have a pint or two, and have a stroll around town with your friends/OH

Actually on 2nd thoughts don't, the whole reason I like doing that is the calmness on the streets... They're empty, usually foggy.... so eerie and chilled out - I love it!

I love my Christmas Eve drinks in town. Everywhere around Quay Street has a tendancy to close at 5:30 - 6:00 ish. O'Flaherty's in Salthill was open til about 9 a few years back.

Why do they close so early?

In my little village they used to stay open until the local priest started giving out about people showing up drunk to mass

Yeah, I am not going on a mad one at all, I may not even drink *booze* :)

I am just getting into town from travelling around 7, so would really like to stop off in town and meet a mate or 2.

The hungover on Christmas Morn thing does not sound appealing any more.. I have a far distant memory of wrapping paper on the floor or An Tobar many years ago ;)

Wards is great, and yea, forgot about PJs.

Anyone know about the Crane or stuff that end?

    What about Stage Door :D
