Hows it goin fellas. I'm totally new to this and some of the questions might seem silly because I know nothing.

I am right in thinking this is a super in-depth board game with nice little characters to move around the board that cost a pretty penny?

I have recently got an urge for board game play and in the madness of it all started devising my own board game! heh

Using the old army dudes (remember the cheap plastic fellas you'd get at christmas?) of different colours I was planning my strategic war game wit cornflakes boxes at the ready to sculpt my board...until...I remember seeing Games Workshop on Liffey St, and what looked to be a great strategic war board game.

So I'm looking to start out. Is there any guides for noobies?

Well, if its the Warhammer one specifically, its not a difficult game to learn. Though as you said, can be a bit costly.

I wouldn't know a huge amount more than yourself, as I've only been in the wargaming hobby for a few months.

I would recommend getting the Warhammer introduction boxset. Black Reach if you like Sci Fi and Space Marines, or the Fantasy one. Which I'm told is a better game, but fewer people seem to play it. It comes with enough models to make two small armies, as well as a pocket sized rule book. Though the larger rulebook contains more information about the game, the background and painting.

You could always call in to Models Inc on Dorset street one evening there's a club night on and have a look/chat.

The Underground Gamers are in there Tuesday evenings, from about 6:30pm.
The Dublin Game Guild are in on Wednesday's from around the same time, but they won't be in wednesday week (christmas eve!)

They're both friendly clubs and you can watch people play the game, nobody minds a few questions either.

You can have a look, or if you call in when it's a bit quieter you can bend the shop-owner, Martin's, ear about the various games he sells. He's a friendly guy, plus he's a shopkeeper so he's happy to tell people about stuff he sells!

I'd really recommend Models Inc over the Liffey street GW as it's about 5 times the size, and has a more varied group of gamers. IE if you're over 16 you won't feel out of place!
