I'm into the acc attorney and hotel dusk type games(although I have'nt got them), but thats the kind of titles i'm into most. I like strategy also.

so what should be the top 10 games on my list be?

    regards.

IMO these are some of the best other than New Super Mario
Prof Layton would be number 1
The World Ends with you number 2
    Animal Crossing number 3
    42 Classic Games number 4
    Advance Wars 1 & 2 numbers 5 & 6
Age of Empires Mythologies number 7
    Brain Training number 8
    More Brain training number 9
    Zelda number 10

I like populous, finding it hard on the DS. Dunno if there are similar games to it, I used to play it a lot on atari st so got it. Might be better in the genre.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin would be a good option.

Anno 1701 is a must have if you like strategy games. That will keep you going for a long time.

    Civilization DS as well maybe.

A one-year-old licensed EA game?! Really?

Apparently Secret Files: Tunguska is a good one if you like great graphics, puzzles and that general genre. I would be of the same tastes as yourself and Professor Layton was a real gem, not too easy and fantastic design. I played hotel dusk through recently and I must say I was a little underwhelmed but in that genre there is also Flower, Sun and Rain, a Japanese concept in much the same vein as hotel dusk, you arrive at a Japanese resort island where the owner tells you that the island is being targeted by terrorists, you and your trusty computer catherine, must solve the mystery in order to avoid a bomb going off. I havent played it so I cant rate it but I imagine it has much the same premise as Hotel Dusk.

I haven't been in the DS scene for a while, but when I had one I had Brothers in Arms which I thought was an amazing game. I loved the control scheme, the stylus worked very well. Quite a short game, but it's probably not at full price anymore.

A real pity that it doesn't have an online mode.

Puzzle Quest is a must. Kind of like bejeweled but with a Rpg battleing element to it.
I really enjoyed Dragon Quest Rocket Slime. Made by a great studio.
Worms open warfare is good too. Great playing multiplayer.
Hotel dusk is also worth a blast. Very much a touch and explore type of game. Really cool stylised graphics to it.
Pheonix Wright series are worth checking out also. Here you act as an attorney and must investigate cases and defend them in court. Good fun but can be frustrating at times.
    Enjoy :D

Mario Kart deserves a mention, especially if you can get some multi player going.

Besides that, +1s for Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton and Zelda.
