Sky Plus Installation?

I currently have normal Sky. The lead fron the dish runs in to my attic and down a wall(not showing) to my main television. I then have a feed out which sends my Sky picture to five other tv points in the house. I only have Sky picture at these points i,e. no extra Sky boxes. Will I be able to get Sky Plus without upsetting this system and can I get Sky Plus without drilling through walls and running wires down from my ceiling. Hope that makes sense.

Sky+ requires 2 cables from dish to box. Is it possible to run another cable down the existing conduit in the wall?

Note it won't affect the current distribution system you have, so your only hassle is going to be getting another co-ax cable to where the Sky+ box will reside.

In my area Sky seems to be installed by running the cables from the dish over the top of the roof, down the outside of the house and then drilling a small hole near to ground level so the cables can enter the house.Maybe you could have the second cable installed like that if you don't want more wires being layed through your entire home.

Thats the cheap and cheerful SKY method of quickly installing a satellite service. Trouble with this is that over the course of a couple of years, the cable will be attacked by the weather, start to break down, signal will deteriorate and the service will be crap. Far better to route the cable internally but a lot more trouble. Ideally there should be a conduit in the wall to run the cable so no unsightly wires running down interior/exterior walls.

    I've just booked a Sky+ installation. Due for January 3rd. :D

Although I do have one concern. I live in a groundfloor flat (with access to a private garden) of a two story terrace block. The block owners (not my landlord) have said we cannot install a dish on the property but can if the dish is posted independantly of the building e.g on a mast etc.

Do you think I could get away with installing it on a drain pipe or something? I'm fairly certain there is a massive chunky drainpipe running down the back of the building.

Anyone know how much it costs/where to get the best deal on an upgrade from standard sky to sky+?

Can you insist they don't do that? Its looks woeful. I guess you could move it yourself afterwards.

Unless you're the eejit sky installers who supposedly 'upgraded' my In laws from a standard sky box to sky+ the week before Christmas....Changed the box over, but didnt bother changing the lnb or running a second cable.......

on a drain pipe are you serious?

on a Pole mounted in the garden would be ok (as long as it was fixed into the ground properly and didnt move about)

Thats my fear over getting Sky Plus. When I originally got Sky the installer wanted to run the cable through the wall beside the telly rather than going in to the attic which was wired for installation. For the sake of saving him about 5 minutes I would have had an ugly great hole in my sitting room wall and the cable running around my sitting room to the decoder.
