Its faster than the evo and imprezza around the ring!
AWD just gives it a bigger rotating mass just slowing it down, a small twisty track 4 wheel drive would be better all right.

Based on the same core as the Focus ST, the RS adds power, handling and appearance modifications to improve the car’s ability to put its power to the ground and direct it down the road, track or gravel path. To keep the potent engine from creating unmanageable torque steer, the engineers designed the car with a unique suspension called the ‘RevoKnuckle,’ which enables the car to keep the intended direction of travel even under heavy throttle.

This works in conjunction with a Quaife automatic torque biasing limited-slip differential. Combined, the Focus RS obviates the need for AWD and the attendant weight gains of the extra differential and driveshafts. A Quaife automatic torque-biasing limited-slip differential keeps the traction steady even on less-than-ideal surfaces.

K got it ....... looks like it gets by without it ...........

until it rains - i don't care if they have a flux capactior transmission on that car, 300bhp and fwd is going to be a pain in anything other than bone dry conditions and smooth tarmac...

300 ponies through the front wheels is un managable in daily driving conditions by your average daily driver, its all well and good saying its faster around the ring than X or Y in the hands of a pro,but try standing water on the M50 in the hands of an idiot or ice on a country road in the hands of someone who is not even trying to drive hard.

225 bhp in a Focus ST without revoknuckle, an ATB lsd diff, or even traction control was a doddle.

With all due respect henry, there is a massive difference between 225 and 300 in terms of getting the pwer down, any auto or race engineer worth his salt will tell you that 230bhp is about the recognised limit of FWD.

And that's why the Saab 95 has something like 250 lol:D

But ya, Focus looks very WRC, kind of a wide bodykit on it. Although it does sound like alot of power for the front wheels, i mean, in this weather mine is bad enough lol.

I await the day i see a brave Irishman buy it in green...

Understood tossy. Technology moves on however and it'll be interesting to see what the new RS turns out like to drive in real world conditions.

The last Focus RS was a twitchy car, with rock hard suspension, and a "busy" diff. which required constant steering inputs and corrections. Quick but too far from a relaxing drive on imperfect surfaces for many.

Sorry, but how often would most people come across Nürburgring type roads, and be able to drive them as they would on the Nürburgring? It's just another advertising gimmick IMO, wouldn't affect my decision if I was looking for another new car.

Was true.....but not anymore. Obviously as suspension geometry and tuning moves on, the amount of power that can be put down through the front wheels increases.

The Revo knuckle and quaif diff mean that 300bhp is entirely feasible. FWD technology has moved on so so much in the last 5 years.

I think its great that Ford have managed to do it without AWD. Reduced complexity, better packaging, cheaper, better economy, lower emissions, lower weight, lower losses etc etc

well the Focus ST is well able to handle 270bhp with the various remapping kits you can get for it, so I expect the RS with its Revoknuckle/Quaife suspension will handle +300 just fine.

Going to be a rare site though, Ford Ireland are only getting 10 to sell

    Hello there and welcome.

Before posting have a read of the Motors forum charter. Dragging up 2 year old threads is a bit of a no no around these parts.
