Contracting in Germany

I just received an offer for a six month contract in Germany via an English agency. I am trying to figure out where I have to pay my tax. I am domiciled here in Ireland, the English agency tells me I have to pay tax on my full income in Germany. My accountant if off till tomorrow and they are pressing me for an answer. Any insight is appreciated!

I think it depends on where your main residence is - spend more than 183 days in another (EU) country (that has a double taxation agreement), and you'll have to pay tax there.
There should be something about this on revenue.ie or citizensinformation.ie.

Are you getting paid in Germany or in Ireland?

If you are getting paid in Ireland then you can just pay the tax in Ireland. If you are getting paid in Germany then they will just deduct the money from your pay anyway.

Your best bet is to sign up to www.toytowngermany.com. It is a forum full of American, British and Irish ex-pats so they can tell you exact things about living and working in germany. There are many things that are done differently in germany so it is always best to read up on things first.

I have lived in eastern Germany on and off for the past 2/3 years (german g/f). The german people are nice in general (their humour is often misunderstood by english speakers).

A few things to be aware of:
Germans will give out to you even when it is not their place to do so. They don't mean it personally as such - its just the way they do things.
Germans stare. Get used to it.
Germans fight for their queue space and will over take you when they see the opportunity. Stand your ground and don't let them.
Watch out for contracts. e.g. most places will only give you a 24 month bb contract. etc.
Many saunas require nudity. I had to laugh when a few friends of mine visited and I brought them to the sauna - they were shocked to say the least.
