Hi, just hoping someone might have an answer or can recommend a garage in South Dublin. My bf's '95 Ford Escort (shudder) is a bit of a disaster really. The handbrake light has been staying on constantly, now the entire back panel of lights has gone (well, the brakes and indicators are still working I think) and the wipers won't work. It seems like a fuse problem to me, but is it easy to repair this problem or would he be better off going to a garage? I know the basics of car maintenance, he...well, he bought that car in the first place...Any suggestions would be great as I'm sick of being his chauffeur after dark!!!

Probably just is a fuse blown (or a few). The fuse panel should be at the drivers nee just under the steering wheel. The plastic panel will have a diagram of the fuse layout on the back. When you put out a fuse it was be coloured with a metal filament running in a U shape through it. if the metal filament has a break in it, then it needs to be replaced.

Its fairly simple and the fuses can be bought in most petrol stations for pennys. Best to check this first before going to the expense of a garage.

The handbrake issue is caused by the handbrake switch under the bandbrake lever stuck shut/closed. There could be something like dirt or a coin or something interfering with the operation of the switch or else it is worn internally. You'll probably need to replace this...

Any light bulb problem at the back are probably caused by blown bulbs or a fuse...
