    Hi folks,

I've researched this topic a fair bit on the web, and am fairly savvy when it comes to PC problems, but this one has me stumped.
My XP is taking a lifetime to shutdown.

I've installed nothing out of the blue lately, and have removed everything from startup folder...nothing in startup in msconfig is checked.

    Virus scanned...Spyware scanned...everything...

Is it maybe a service or something?!

    Cheers!

HAve you tried changing any reg keys? I set AutoEndTasks to 1 and it speeds up the shutdown process to no end on my PC.

    hey Ponster,

I tried that, and while it helped a little...the wait for the "shut down" button is taking a huge amount of time.

Have you tried User Profile Hive Cleanup Service?

You can also look in the Event viewer
    Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer

    Or policys
    Start\Run\gpedit.msc <Enter>
