I would definetly recommend the Hotel Oxford. Stayed here in Jan 2006. 4star hotel on via Boncampagni and very close to the main via Veneto thoroughfare. Its within comfortable walking distance of many attractions, and the metro is a bout a 5-10minute walk away on via Veneto but perhaps when you first arrive get a taxi from the rail station to the hotel just to get your bearings on its location.

Rooms were impeccable.Breakfast was your usual Continental. Around the corner down below street level in a cellar was a fantastic family run Trattoria which had brilliant pizza and traditional Italian dishes.

I stayed in the Eurostar International Palace last year and would recommend it. The room was small but beautifully decorated and spotlessy clean. Apparently most hotel rooms in Rome are small. The location was perfect..within walking distance of all the sights. I think the price was reasonable aswell

Hello, Im hoping to get to Rome at end of March for 3 nights. It seems enormous on maps
Is it a safe City? Which Airport is best to fly into? Is it easy to get around?
I have done very little travelling and this will be my first solo trip. Thanks

Hi, I was there in April and although I met my sister over there (she flew from the u.k.) I travelled and did all the research/accommodation booking/planning myself (all sis had to do was book her flights  lol). I think the most important part if going alone is to research where you're staying, check maps, transport etc particularly for when you arrive and the once you've checked-in you can get your bearings and figure out the rest of your day.
I flew to Leonardo da vinci (Fiumicino) airport and got the Leonardo Express train into Rome (termini) it took about 30/35 minutes.
The metro is great for getting around, it was €1 no matter where you were going or if I remember right there was an hourly or daily rate too - I can't remember off the top of my head though:D
For accommodation I found www.hostelworld.com fab! It's an irish owned company so I was able to book using my laser card which was a godsend. I think I've still got links and info saved so I can post them if needed

well the main ones I bookmarked were hostelworld (as I already mentioned),

    for Leonardo Express details

    Although
if you're planning on taking photos (I came back with almost 500 pictures - and even then I didn't photograph everything!:o) you'd be best to grab a map and go by foot - you see soooo much more that way. One of the best moments for me was walking up Via Labicana and catching my first glimpse of the Colosseum :o:pac:

Hope they're of some use - any other questions I'll try to help!
