Hi, Just wondering, I have Sky and have Multi Room. However the first Sky Digi box I have is an Old Pace Model and I would like to change and get a Newer Model, not a Sky Plus or HD just a normal one, what do I need to do to hook a new one up? Is if just a matter of plugging in the Scart and the Sky Cable? Do I need to do anything else, do I have to connect it to a Telephone Line or ring Sky or anything?? Cause I dont want to have to connect it to a phone line again.

    Thanks

just reconnect the same way as your existing one .

you will have to ring sky to pair your viewing card with your new box.

if you have a multiroom sub you will have to keep the telephone cable connected.

If you have Multiroom, and don't have all boxes connected to a phone line, I'd not bring attention to yourself, and leave well enough alone! It's a condition of your Multiroom contract to have all boxes connected, permanently, to your phone line.

Yeah was wondering about that. I have the 2nd box connected when I got the multi room, and I had the origianl box connected with one of those one-4-all wireless thingys but think that dont work any more. So I was slow about changing my box. I had thought someone has said elsewhere when you dont buy the new box from Sky you wouldn't have to have it connected to a phone line!!

I'm thinking of changing my stand alone box as I have one of those Grundigs that dosen't display Setanta in its proper aspect ratios. Will Sky repair my existing card to another box if I just ask them to do it or would they want a good reason? Also if you have stand alone channels like Setanta would you have to call them to alert them to fact you have changed your box? Thanks

Yeah, Sky will re-pair the card to the replacement box. If they ask, just say the old one stopped working properly.

Don't think you'll need to ring Setanta.

That's true for a regular Sky, Sky+, Sky HD install/subscription without Multiroom. Once you add Multiroom, you enter in to a contract agreeing to leave all subscription boxes connected, permanently, to the same phone line (to stop sharing/selling a €60 sub to your friends/neighbours for €15). You'll hear conflicting stories about how religiously Sky police this, but the contract is there nonetheless.

Re-pairing (as against repairing!) a card is a simple enough process. If asked you just need to explain you bought a 2nd-hand box. I've never been quizzed any more after that.

My Setanta doesn't need pairing anyway (I can bring my card to any Sky box, whether or not that box has been paired with another card). Sky Sports is different, obviously.

For information purposes a friend of mine had to replace his box and he had to ring Setanta as well.
